Bob Baffert, the renowned horse trainer, and his owners have decided not to relinquish and give up control over any promising 3-year-olds to other trainers. This was all about effectively sidelining them from contention in the upcoming Kentucky Derby. This move ensures that Baffert and his horses will be absent from the esteemed event.

Despite hopes for reconciliation, Churchill Downs appears resolute in its decision, leaving Baffert to focus on other prestigious races. Baffert, known for his exceptional horsemanship, expressed his acceptance of the situation. He even emphasized his commitment, revealing his statement on the Kentucky Derby to the Los Angeles Times.

Baffert affirmed to The Los Angeles Times, “Nobody will transfer their horses. I just remain focused on training my horses and competing in the big races.” Also, Baffert’s absence from the Derby stems from a two-year ban. Churchill Downs Inc. extended its contract for another year following a medication violation involving Medina Spirit in the 2021 Kentucky Derby. Later, Churchill Downs’ penalty for Medina Spirit’s positive test for a prohibited medication on race day prevented Baffert from participating in this year’s Derby. Despite the setback, Baffert remains committed to the sport, stating, It’s out of my hands; I just want what’s best for the game.”

Baffert’s top horses, Nysos and Muth, are not on the transfer list this year. But he has previously entrusted them to former assistant Tim Yakteen. Also, Baffert’s 18 Triple Crown-nominated horses remain eligible for the Preakness and Belmont Stakes. They have showcased the unwavering loyalty of their owners to the renowned trainer. On this, CDI stated that the dismissal has not altered anything and has not shown any change in the following week. However, despite the Derby setback, Baffert celebrated a significant victory, posing a silver lining.
