There has been no letup in the success of the 2024 horse racing season so far. Worldwide, spectators have seen a plethora of major races, with both familiar and unfamiliar horses surprising the crowds. Another event that attracted a lot of attention was the Dubai Carnival. This fiesta of horse racing will span for months until the end of March when the Dubai Cup night will be hosted. Fans were also not let down by the event, due to the Irish thoroughbred Mysterious Night, who provided them with a thrilling Group Two Al Fahidi Fort race.

Meydan Racecourse’s third event of the day was the Group Two Al Fahidi Fort. The Irish thoroughbred made the race an exciting one by charging over the closing stretch of the 10-horse track. Since it was one of the events that spectators would remember, the footage of the race quickly became popular on the internet.

The Al Fahidi Fort had a rocky beginning. Before the race even began, the American thoroughbred Demain and the Irish thoroughbred Rusumaat had already been scratched for unknown reasons. As a result, there were 10 horses left waiting at the gates of Meydan Racecourse. Danyah, King Gold, and Al Salt formed the first three gates of the race. Majestic Pride, Marbaan, Mysterious Night, and Real World were the horses in the middle gates from 5 to 8. Shining Blue, Tamborrada, and Vafortino covered the rest, as Rusmaat at Gate 9 didn’t start the race.

When the race began, Majestic Pride was at the front of the pack and stayed there for a long time. Danyah followed the lead horse and maintained its pace too. But on the final stretch of the race, everything changed. As per Dubai Racing Club’s X post, after the final bend, Mysterious Night surged from the inside and blasted past the leading horses to seize the lead. With tremendous speed recovery, the Irish gelding continued to race relentlessly until it crossed the finish line. For the 2024 season, this race was the horse’s second victory, and with this victory, fans would expect more stints from the gelding.

Looking back at the horse’s career

There is a bright future for the four-year-old gelding, Mysterious Night. Until now, the horse has participated in two races for its 2024 season and has won them both. The horse’s long-time jockey, William Buick, has been an integral component of its success, riding it to victory after victory.

Given how well the 2024 season started, the 2023 season was going to be insignificant compared to that. However, the 2022 campaign of the horse would still be the most notable one. Following the gelding’s novice win in June 2022 at Newbury, the horse dominated the Circus Maximus Prix Francois Boutin (Gr. 3) at Deauville. At Woodbine, Mysterious Night extended its winning run by displaying its enormous potential in the Pattison Summer Stakes (Gr. 1). As the 2024 season is already going well for the gelding, its trainer, Charlie Appleby, will be looking forward to more opportunities for the horse.
