In addition to the win, the colt broke the “Curse of Apollo.” This achievement made him the first horse in 136 years to win the Kentucky Derby without competing as a two-year-old, a feat last achieved by Apollo in 1882. It was a watershed event in American horse racing history, cementing Justify’s place in Thoroughbred racing lore for all time.
