But the aftermath leaves the village behind the event terror-stricken for long. As a special mention, the families of the affected face the most traumas than anyone else. The popular Australian Turf Club Group 2 Thoroughbred horse race, the Silver Shadow Stakes, is one such August event most Australian enthusiasts look forward to. But an incident that happened two years back, still horrifies fans about safety measures in equine racing.
Brenton Avdulla, the champion jockey from Australia, has bagged great successes throughout his stellar career. Aboard Sight Success, the 32-year-old jockey had enjoyed a solid start to the new season in 2023. Though he has been winless for the past two meets after Hong Kong, he has set his sight strong in 2024. But the horror which pulled him down in 2021 is still a nightmare to his closest one.

An X page named World Horse Racing posts regular updates of the track happenings oftentimes. But recently, an unpleasant video resurfaced, and it was none other than Brenton Avdulla in action, until he collapsed on the track. Captioning the post as “My toughest week… @brentonavdulla‘s wife Taylor recalls her husband’s horror fall”, the X handle caught Avdulla’s wife narrating her side of the terror story. In the video, she said, “Two years ago, at Randwick racecourse, I was at home, watching the race on TV. And he had the fall”. She continued, “But thankfully, my dad was at the race due to his work…He gave me a call… he’s gonna go to the hospital… Oh that was very stressful cause you don’t really know what’s going on”.

From her expressions, it was clear that Mrs. Brenton Avdulla was on the verge of tearing up. But the latter part of her speech had a ray of hope. As more people chimed in to extend support, it was a rough time for the family back then. Let’s take a look at how the sickening day was.

A look back at Avdulla’s incident
Aboard equine Xtremetime, the jockey had faced the fall just 100 metres away from the post. As a result, he had suffered a brain injury, and his horse suffered a fatal leg wound. Lying unresponsive on the track, Avdulla was immediately attended by his father-in-law, Neil Paine, who was there with him throughout.

With cooperation from the ambulance officers and race club officials, the Australian jockey was rushed to the Prince of Wales Hospital. The subsequent news confirmed that Avdulla had his brain bleeding after the fall, followed by a spinal fracture. But apart from the good news that he had recovered soon, his equine Xtremetime had been put down, as per his trainer’s statements.
