A Puerto Rican professional jockey has been a highlight of the famed New York Racing Association, Inc. (NYRA) circuit this year. Boasting a distinguished horse racing career, he became well known for winning the 2020 Belmont Stakes. The jockey has achieved additional notable achievements on October 29, when apart from career defining “Belmont at the Big A” at Aqueduct, he marked his career victories number of  2,000.

Being a professional rider since 2013 and flaunting an illustrious career since, the leading jockey of the NYRA circuit made his professional return. In a recent interview, he candidly spoke about some success tips with the riding community, giving eye opening revelations for wisdom-hungry fans.

Horse racing champion reflects on his riding journey

Leading jockey Manuel Franco won three NYRA circuit meet titles this year and is nearly certain to win a fourth, talked about how he stays focused and succeeds in one of the “toughest racing colonies in the nation”. In an interview with NYRA press, he was asked, “How do you maintain that level of focus from race to race?” Franco replied, “I prepare the same way every day. I come with a positive mind and try to make the most of my opportunities. It’s been working for me.”

After self-describing the scene to be “toughest,” he explained: “it means my agent and I are doing something good. He’s been working hard – me as well. It’s team work. There’s a lot of communication with the trainers and the owners and working hard in the mornings.”

Another standout reply came from Franco about a race that he dreams of winning. He stated that he’s been working really hard to “win the Kentucky Derby. I was so close to winning with Tiz the Law.”

He further shared that he harboured a soft corner in his heart for the Kentucky Derby, and that he thinks all riders share this dream. Having already achieved what most passionate jockeys look up to him for, the man himself explains how he feels about his noteworthy wins.

Looking back at his memorable sojourn

The conversation focused on Franco’s successes at Saratoga, especially his rides on Channel Maker and Evvie Jets. He said, That day, there was a lot of speed in the race and I made sure to break and get my forward position and after that I had a dream trip.” And underlined, “Any race you can win at Saratoga is special,” honoring one of the most renowned racetracks.
