The horse racing world witnessed an electrifying spectacle at the pulsating heart of India, at the Mahalaxmi Racecourse in Mumbai. A popular Irish jockey made waves far from his homeland, Killarney, Ireland, at The Trilegal Indian 1000 Guineas, the first classic of the Mumbai 2023–24 season.
The winner of two British Classics and multiple G1 races also received a grand welcome from Indian horse racing fans aboard a Pesi Shroff-trained filly. And as he rode to victory, he received hero’s applause, causing a fan frenzy online.
Irish horse racing jockey causes a wave on Indian soil

In a post on Facebook by World Horse Racing Irish jockey Oisin Murphy was seen taking a victory walk with Pesi Shroff-trained Jendayi at the Mahalaxmi racecourse in Mumbai. The post’s caption read, “Listen to that Indian reception!!! The Mumbai crowd goes crazy for Oisin Murphy after he wins the INDG1 Indian 1000 Guineas on JENDAYI!” At the race, despite the challenges, Oisin Murphy remained calm and composed when he found himself between Democracy and Ameerah at the homestretch.
With great agility, he managed to find a gap between the two other horses and soon guided Jendayi, owned by Mr. and Mrs. Vijay Shirke, Mr. KN and ZK Dhunjibhoy rep. Five Stars Shipping Co Pvt Ltd & Ms Anita J Captain, to the front of the pack. His formidable victory saw the Irishman receive a round of applause not just from the fans at the race course but also online.
Oisin Murphy gets a resounding applause from the online community
Comments and awe poured out for the 28-year-old jockey, Oisin Murphy. One fan gushed, “Awesome ride by champion jockey… Well Done….”. One person praised jockey and trainer Pesi Shroff, who achieved a significant milestone by training his 50th Classic winner through Jendayi, expressing, “Pesi Shroff & Murphy super.” While another person simply hailed Murphy as the “King”. “Super riding,” said another horse racing fan. While another commented, “Well done, champ”. Oisin Murphy had a great day, winning not just one but two races in a row.

Before Jendayi, Murphy won the R. J. Kolah Trophy with another horse trained by Pesi Shroff, named Chamonix. Set to race on another Pesi Shroff-trained horse next Sunday for the Indian 2000 Guineas, horse racing fans await another showdown from Oisin Murphy as he makes waves in India.
