The Aqueduct Racecourse is well-known among all American horse racing fans. The one and only racetrack in New York City is located in the Jamaica and South Ozone Park areas of Queens. It is a venue for thoroughbred horse racing and the spirit of betting. There are a plethora of exciting horse racing events held at the track each season, and spectators love it. But because of the extreme weather, the 2024 campaign has been questionable.
Last time, race weekend was canceled due to frigid conditions that had been impacting the racecourse for some time. Many aficionados wanted the races that were postponed to be rescheduled; thus, this caused quite a stir. The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has recently addressed this issue in its official statement by proposing a new arrangement for these missed racing weekends.

Because most of the racing tracks have been terrified by the arctic temperatures, the NYRA canceled the January 20 and January 21 cards. Since the NYRA was concerned about the safety of both equines and jockeys on the racetrack in the light of unpredictable weather, it was reasonable to cancel the races. However, during the cancelation notice, the NYRA didn’t provide any updates about rescheduling the races, which caused dissatisfaction from a lot of fans. But, in a statement posted on their official website, NYRA has lately addressed the rescheduling of these events.
The NYRA acknowledges the significance of the Aqueduct winter meet, which starts on January 1 and concludes at the end of March. A significant aspect of the racetrack is the presence of 26 stakes, with purses totaling $3.5 million over the meet. The NYRA has rescheduled the postponed races to February 19, with the return to full race weekends on February 29. From every Friday to Sunday, the races will take place at the Aqueduct as well, in order to avoid scheduling conflicts. One of the most famous racecourses in England also felt the fury of these frigid conditions, adding to the misery for the American track.
