“Nothing Without Fans”: Frankie Dettori’s Heartfelt Note to Supporters Before Facing Upset in SPOTY Awards 2023

Athletes are always prepared for fortune and misfortune as they are part of their lives. Along a similar line, after being a finalist for the Esteemed Award, renowned jockey Frankie Dettori had to face a major upset in the BBC SPOTY Awards 2023.

Despite being a fan favorite, Dettori came short of earning the prestigious award. The distinguished jockey penned a heartfelt note to his fans before dealing with the upsetting situation. While he had not anticipated it, he took to Twitter to reveal his gratitude.

Frankie Dettori took to his official Twitter handle to share his thoughts. He posted a picture of himself with the massive crowd behind him and captioned his post, “What an honor to be shortlisted for this evening’s #SPOTY award. You’ve made this year so special. Sport is nothing without fans. Yes, we might create the action, but you make the moment matter. Whatever happens tonight, thank you all for making this such a year to remember.’’

After seeing the post, many fans came forward to support him and also admired him for the accomplishments that he received throughout his career. A panel of experts shortlisted the most skillful athletes for this honor, but the winner was decided by the public vote. Hence, Goalkeeper Mary Earps received the highest vote for the award and notched the BBC Sports Personality of the Year award.

The expert panel also nominated the biggest tennis player Alfie Hewett, and golfer Rory McIlroy for the BBC awards. Along with Dettori, they also had to face a major failure.

The dominating goalkeeper Mary Earps received huge love from the public, as the voting result fell in her favor for the most prestigious BBC SPOTY Award.  The 30-year-old footballer, Earps is known for her outstanding performances. After securing the Golden Glove for England in the World Cup as the Lionesses’ standout player, she consistently has been getting accolades. The best goalkeeper Mary Earps now clinched the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year for 2023.

After winning this esteemed honor, Mary Earps has become the second women’s footballer in succession.  After being named Sports Personality of the Year in Salford’s Media City, the World Cup star Mary is overwhelmed and addressed her distinguished accomplishment as the “ultimate all-round sporting accolade”. She also expressed her gratitude towards fans as they cast the highest vote for her and brought the trophy for her.

While Frankie Dettori did not clinch the award, he took the situation in a positive way, accepting the results of the public vote. His positive demeanor and undying sportsmanship spirit help him carve a special place in fans’ hearts.
