Horses and humans share a longstanding history. They have been together through thick and thin. Initially, they were used for transportation and played crucial roles in wars. However, they are now becoming part of equestrian sports and horse racing. Here are some horses that tragically lost their lives in the year 2023:

Grumpy Charlie
Grumpy Charlie, a Thoroughbred racehorse foaled in 2015, was trained by Chris Honour and owned by Mr. G Thompson. A grey gelding, Grumpy Charlie’s sire is Shirocco, and his dam is Whisky Rose. He has participated in 25 races and secured victory in 5 of them. Additionally, he achieved total earnings of ?139,252.

However, recently he faced a tragedy in a race. Despite a previous injury that had resulted in a pinned leg he was forced to compete. Unfortunately, at the end of the race, he fell down and passed away on November 9th.
Practical Move
Practical Move is a 3-year-old racehorse who was trained by Tim Yakteen. Owned by Pierre Jean & Leslie A. Amestoy & Roger K. Beasley. With a racing career that spans 6 competitions, Practical Move boasts an impressive record of 5 victories and one placement, accumulating career earnings of $467,720.
However, tragedy struck during the recent Breeders Cup on November 3rd. The horse, returning from a routine morning gallop, a common exercise for racehorses, suddenly collapsed near the eighth pole of the track. The reason behind his death was cardiac arrest.
Geaux Rocket
Born in 2020, Geaux Rocket was a 3-year-old horse. He was the mare of Uncle Mo Beyond Grace and was sired by Candy Ride. He competed in many races and won at Del Mar, Monmouth Park, and Santa Anita.
Among his achievements are the 2023 Haskell Stakes (G1) and the 2023 Affirmed (LS).”His mind and his spirit never quit, but his body never recovered from surgery,” Pin Oak Stud said on X. Regrettably, Geaux Rocket’s promising career was cut short as he died on November 1, 2023, due to complications from surgery
Lost in Limbo
Lost in Limbo was a 7-year-old racehorse who was foaled in 2016. He died on May 26, 2023, due to a catastrophic injury sustained during a race at Churchill Downs. Sired by Into Mischief and out of the Yes It’s True mare Secret Humor, Lost in Limbo was trained by Michael E. Lauer. Throughout his career Lost in Limbo participated in 35 starts and secured victory in 6 races. His lifetime earnings exceed $225,000.

Parents Pride
Parents Pride, a 4-year-old? racehorse. He died during a race at Churchill Downs. According to the Kentucky Horse Racing Commission, A necropsy report revealed mild to moderate changes in the heart, brain, and lung, but KHRC noted, “these were not thought to be significant enough to be the cause of the sudden death. The pathologist points out that many sudden deaths are autopsy-negative, which means no definitive cause of death is known. Parents Pride was coming off 34 days of rest, and veterinary records from the 60 days leading up to the April 29 race showed very minimal and routine?work.”

Throughout her racing career, Parents Pride engaged in 14 starts, achieving victory in 4 races, with 4 additional placements and 3 third-place finishes. Her remarkable achievements contributed to career earnings totaling $377,535.
