Engaged in a candid questionnaire with the NYRA, Javier Castellano shed light on his never-quitting mentality. Going through a hip surgery and the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t easy for the 4X Eclipse award winner. Facing a standstill in career made him resort to his present agent P. J Campo and believe more in himself. Regarding that, the jockey reflected, “I was almost ready to give up. But I didn’t quit. I put a lot of sacrifice, dedication, and discipline on myself and was committed to work very hard.”
Further on, he accoladed Campo, saying, “With P.J. we found the right horses and then the opportunities little by little opened up. Things really turned around.” Besides, he acknowledged the hardships of every sport despite its nature. But with the right kind of push, anything is achievable, as per his words. He reiterated his strength notes with words like: “I feel good, I’m healthy, I’m hungry, and I want to extend my career for at least a couple more years.”
The legendary jockey hit the nadir when the pandemic hit, after which he saw the light with the help of his agent. But on the rough days, his close ones never left his side.
