The 2022 Kentucky Derby winner, Rich Strike, has retired due to injuries, preventing a return to racing. The 4-year-old colt will be offered for sale as a stallion prospect at Keeneland’s auction on Nov. 17. Owner Rick Dawson expressed hope for Rich Strike’s second career as a stallion after rehab attempts were hindered by persistent injuries. According to X, Rich Strike retired on 10th November.

Rich Strike’s historic Derby win at 80-1 odds marked the second-biggest upset in the horse racing history. Despite subsequent challenges, including finishes in the Belmont Stakes and Breeders’ Cup Classic, Rich Strike concludes his racing career with two wins in 14 starts and earnings of $2,526,809.”Thank you Champ for all the great memories and all you taught me and all you taught the world in this sport, that everything is possible and anything can happen in horse racing,” Leon who is Strike’s jockey said to ESPN

Arcangelo’s unexpected retirement

Arcangelo, a remarkable 3-year-old male who had won many Grade 1 races, withdrew from racing during Breeders’ cup and now became a stud at Lane’s End Farm. Arcangelo’s career included wins in the prestigious Belmont Stakes (G1), the Travers Stakes (G1) and the Peter Pan Stakes (G3). Trained by Jena Antonucci, who became the first female trainer to win a Triple Crown event, Arcangelo campaigned under Jon Ebbert’s Blue Rose Farm. Arcangelo was a strong candidate for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) due to his domination in the 3-year-old category and his lifetime earnings of $1,754,900.

Jon Ebbert, Arcangelo’s owner, expresses gratitude for the journey and selects Lane’s End as the ideal destination for his stallion career. Bred by Don Alberto Corporation, Arcangelo is the son of champion Arrogate and Modeling, a $2.85 million Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale broodmare purchase with a notable pedigree linked to Broodmare of the Year Better Than Honour.
