Paul Nicholls bid a poignant farewell to Frodon, the beloved 11-year-old from his stables. He also announced the end of the gelding’s illustrious 52-race career after the King George VI Chase at Kempton. Frodon, partnered by Bryony Frost for most victories, captured 19 wins, notably the 2020 Boxing Day highlight, the 2019 Cheltenham Festival’s Ryanair Chase, and the 2021 Ladbrokes Champion Chase at Down Royal.

In his last attempt, although he performed well in the King George VI Chase and led for a while with Frodon, the experienced player finished fifth among five rivals. With gratitude for Frodon’s strong commitment and numerous victories, Nicholls said it was time to bid farewell. We should grant the great horse the peaceful rest from racing that he truly deserves

Legacy of a champion

ITV Racing recently showcased an awe-inspiring performance of the remarkable horse, coupled with a caption that encapsulated the momentous announcement made by Paul Nicholls: “𝙁𝙧𝙤𝙙𝙤𝙣 𝙝𝙖𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙩𝙞𝙧𝙚𝙙. What a wonderful horse and an incredible career.” In his final appearance at Kempton’s Boxing Day event, Frodon, ridden by Frost, attempted another triumph but began to struggle over the closing fences, finishing fifth of six, trailing 44 lengths behind Hewick. Paul Nicholls, breaking the news of Frodon’s retirement in his Betfair blog, praised the horse as a phenomenal performer across various races and confirmed that Frodon would retire in good health, enjoying a lifelong home with Bryony Frost on Exmoor.

 

Frodon, the very loved leaper, helped push Bryony Frost to fame by winning 19 times out of 52 races and getting almost £1.2 million as reward. With Frost’s help, he did great in the 2019 Ryanair Chase at Cheltenham Festival and the 2020 King George VI Chase at Kempton.

Frodon’s illustrious career

Frondon has won big, such as the top Ryanair Chase at the Cheltenham Festival. Its remarkable career showcases its proficiency in jumping over obstacles on the racecourse. Despite nearing retirement, Frodon coming back for the Badger Beer Handicap Chase at Wincanton would have surely been a thrilling show. His coach couldn’t believe how much love and shape this horse still had left. It was clear there might not have been many more races in store after all these years of great racing performance, but what an amazing story it would have made if we had let him go out on top! However, he finally retired today.
