Horse Racing Trainer Domenick Schettino Eyes Franklin Square Win with Bernietakescharge

In the horse racing realm, there are several instances where the bloodline speaks volumes. We know of the most decorated Japanese Thoroughbred racehorse Equinox who had brought a good name on his father Kitasan Black, now living their best life in Shadai Stallion Station. But let’s not stop at Equinox, because several emerging equines with exceptional abilities are following in their parents’ footsteps.

Coming back to the American Thoroughbred community, a multitude of stellar animals made winning strides in their careers. One such performer was Berning Rose, who flew to victory at Belmont Park’s annual race, Maid of the Mist, specially designed for the New York horses. After over five years, trainer Domenick Schettino hopes to witness a youngster follow her mother’s legacy.

Horse racing trainer keeps his hopes up

Owners and breeders Robert Rosenthal and Bradford Bernstein accompany trainer Schettino, as the trio roots for the first stakes victory of Bernietakescharge, the worthy offspring of Berning Rose. On Sunday, the $100,000  Franklin Square event is scheduled at Aqueduct Racetrack and the equine team sounds optimistic ahead of the big day. The trainer opined, “Her mom showed right off the bat in her early breezes that she could really run. Bernietakescharge isn’t as mature as her mom was as a 2-year-old, but she’s starting to mature and really put it all together now.”

In May last year, Bernietakescharge joined her half-sister in the Schettino barn. Since she’s still on her learning journey, she sported blinkers on December 14, fending off P Mutter Pickle by three-quarter lengths to secure the win. Post that, her trainer said, “The blinkers were on and she seemed a little more focused with them. She’s still learning”. Whether she can outclass her mom or not is a matter of time. But we can have a look at her notable achievements.

Bernietakescharge’s racing strides

At the Saratoga Race Course in 2023 August, Bernietakescharge rooted for a podium in the 1 1/16-mile maiden tilt. But around 14 days later, she clinched victory in an off-the-turf route to prove herself capable of the lineage. Later, in her stakes debut in October, she concluded with an unfortunate fourth behind My Mane Squeeze in the Maid of the Mist event.

But the Franklin States would be an opportunity to reclaim the throne Bernietakescharge lost to My Mane Squeeze, as both will go head-on again. As per the news on January 2, the Belmont training track beheld the best of the stellar youngster, who covered the half-mile in 51.28 seconds with rider Trevor McCarthy. Right after, the proud trainer had voiced, “Trevor worked her and we just schooled her a little bit. It was a nice work, she galloped out well.” Undoubtedly, Schettino has big expectations from Berning Rose’s offspring.
