Before bidding farewell to the successful year of 2023, several horse racing associations are looking forward to utilise the last few hours. The prime example of the same is the Quebec Stakes, a Listed flat horse race in Great Britain. The prestigious competition at one of the decorated venue Lingfield Park, has flung open its gates to welcome some of best known in this field.
Astonishingly, the venue is the same one which hosts the Listed BetUK Churchill Stakes. On the November 18 race, a five-year-old horse had “gone very well at the track”. So, to end the year on a greater note, the horse is returning, looking strong for the Quebec Stakes victory today. And this news has attracted the attention of my enthusiasts.

“That mane! Tyrrhenian Sea is back in action today on Sky Sports Racing in the Listed BetUK Quebec Stakes at @LingfieldPark…” is what At The Races posted on their X handle. The equine has a history of phenomenal performances, the recent being the G3 BetUK Winter Derby in February. He finished with a silver around his beautiful neck. In fact, going two months back, in the 2022 Easter Classic at Newcastle, he came out as the runner-up as well.

His trainer Roger Varian has commented, “The Winter Derby will come under consideration again, while Finals Day is something to think about as well. We will see how he gets on this weekend and then go from there.”
As the racers, their horses and fans are gearing up for their mega showdown, these race in Great Britain might be in jeopardy. This is due to the overnight rainfall that has caused a chaos allover.

Following, David Attwood, the clerk of the course, said, “We were forecast approximately 4mm of rain last night and we got 15mm, on top of ground which was quite heavy already”.

Attwood also mentioned, “It’s just left us with a lot of standing water down the back straight, it’s probably under two foot of water, so it made the decision this morning easy, but it’s massively disappointing.” Nonetheless, the fans and racers will be hoping that the next meeting on January 13 will turn out to be a good news.
