Santa Anita Park continues its magic from 2023. The iconic racetrack is once again gearing up for an exhilarating contest as one of the leading American horse racing trainers enters his champions in the coveted contest. A series Kentucky Derby trainer and winner, he will headline with 2 horses in the Santa Anita Park race.

Led by Del Mar champion Beer Money, his equines will be the favorite leading to the race. Drafted in for the 9th race, the trainer shared his thoughts on their performance leading up to the event.

Horse racing icon Beer Money and Salsation enter Santa Anita Park

In an interview with TVG, Doug O’Neill revealed his horses, Beer Money and Salsation, for the 9th race at Santa Anita Park, and shared his thoughts on the same. Both horses were running for the first time in 2024, with Beer Money having last finished 2nd at Lps Alamitos Thoroughbred. After clearing he wasn’t named after him, Doug expressed, “He’s a really cool horse. He’s run hard each time we’ve tried him out there”.

Beer Money has taken part in 4 races till now, winning one and remaining runner-up in two. Salsation, on the other hand, has raced 7 times, emerging victorious at the Los Alamitos Thoroughbred. Hoping he regains his form, the 55-year-old added, “We’re hoping the grass moves him up“. Doug further expressed his confidence in the jockeys, and the results weren’t that bad.

Beer Money lights up Santa Anita Park

Scheduled in the morning, Race 9 at Santa Anita Park saw several horses compete to get their hands on the $87,000 prize money. Beer Money and Thirsty Thursday were among the top favorites to win the race, and as expected, it was a breathtaking competition between the two champion horses. After a brisk start, Beer Money led them in front but Thirsty Thursday soon overtook him to win the contest.

Salsation finished last at the 8th place but looked in a good touch. While Doug O’Neill will be pretty satisfied with his horse and hopes Beer Money continues with the same momentum, Thirsty Thursday recorded his 2nd straight victory after losing his last 6. The Maiden Claiming at Golden Gate marked his first career win in December last year.
