The last time the two sat for an interview was known to be during the jockey’s retirement announcement. While the horse racing grounds have changed for Dettori since then, much of his truth has remained the same. From a near-death encounter during a plane crash to his relationship with the late Queen Elizabeth, the 53-year-old has a lot to reminisce about.

Piers Morgan picks Dettori’s brain and unravels the trauma that’s skin deep
At age 29, in 2000, Frankie Dettori, alongside fellow jockey, boarded an aircraft en route to Goodwood in West Sussex. However, a few moments into take off and the plane caught on fire and made a crash. “I did not have enough time to scream and I was just disappointed that I was going to die. I was thinking, 29 years old, just had a 6 months child, why are you taking me now,” Dettori recalls. However, by a miracle, the jockey managed to come out of the crash alive with quite a few injuries.
