The 2023 horse racing season was one of the best for Australian jockey Rachel King. After a series of Grade 1 wins last year, she is carrying on her dominant form to the 2024 season as she secures a historical milestone in Japan. With even more high-staked contests lined up, Rachel has also revealed her ‘next stop’.
Although she was drafted with a champion horse, Rachel was nonetheless exceptional. While she is proud of the achievement, the Coolmore Stud Stakes champion is geared for the next race.

After writing history in Japan, British-Australian jockey Rachel King expressed her happiness in an Instagram post while also revealing her next racing stop. “First Group 2 winner on the board with Chuck Nate at Nakayama racecourse.Thank you for everyone’s kind messages and support. Next stop Tokyo“, she captioned the update. She became the first female jockey to win a JRA Group race in the Group 2 The American Jockey Club Cup (2200m).

While Rachel has been a dominant force on European soil, she is trying her hands on the Japanese and Tokyo dirt, and undoubtedly, is leaving a mark. “Great day today”, she expresses in the video, adding, “I was the first foreign female to win a Group race in Japan. It’s been a very good start to my trip“. With Tokyo as her next stop, the horse racing queen will look to add many more memorable achievements under her name.

Rachel’s horse racing trip in Japan
Rachel King started the Japan trip on 6th January, shortly after her Magic Millions Plate victory at Ascot. She finished 12th in the debut Nakayama race. But on the same day, she clinched a victory in the R5 Nakayama Maiden Race and the R10 Nakayama Junior Cup. Later on 13th January, Rachel won the Hatsuharu Stakes.

After several races, she finally added another couple of wins to her name on 21st January. It started with the R1 Nakayama Maiden Race. She later concluded her trip with a historic victory in the R11 Nakayama The American Jockey Club Cup before finishing 3rd in the Alexandrite Stakes. It indeed was a successful trip for the Australian icon, and she hopes to replicate the same in Tokyo.
