Zac Purton, the Hong Kong Champion Jockey, boasts a stellar career with Group 1 wins worldwide. This Australian-born luminary boasts a repertoire of triumphs in prestigious races worldwide, securing Group 1 victories in England, Singapore, Japan, Hong Kong, and notably, in his homeland of Australia, where his ascent to greatness commenced in modest beginnings. Zac initiated his riding career in the quaint coastal enclave of Coffs Harbour, situated 500 kilometres north of Sydney. He swiftly rose to dominance, securing the Brisbane Premiership title as an apprentice in 2003.

She expressed, “Okay, I’m gonna say it—he’s extremely driven and successful, and he’s very kind. He’s gonna hate me for saying that.” She highlighted what makes Zack exceptional, emphasizing his unwavering professionalism on game days. “What’s great about Zack is his absolute focus during races; it’s all he’s thinking about—getting the job done and crossing that finish line first.” However, she also shed light on his ability to switch off, a quality that contributes to their fulfilling life in Hong Kong.

 

What’s wonderful about Hong Kong is that we have a beautiful life here. Zac, a dedicated family man married to Nicole, daughter of NZ Hall Of Fame jockey Jimmy Cassidy, has made Sha Tin Racecourse home for nearly 15 years with their children, Roxy and Cash. Despite being based in Hong Kong, Zac’s racing prowess extends globally, winning prestigious races in Australia and abroad, notably with Hong Kong-trained horses like Little Bridge triumphing at Royal Ascot in 2012.
