The year has seen some of the greats of the horse racing world race in their concluding tracks. Equinox, Arcangelo, or Titleholder, all and many have held and left behind a grip on the enthusiasts with their one last bid. Today, as the season end arrives, yet another champion moves on to join the celebrating crowd in retirement. Mimosa Sho to Hong Kong Vase, the Takahisa Tezuka-trained 6-year-old is ready to leave a mark memorable.
Sired by Screen Hero, Win Marilyn has raced a spectacular career for the past 4 years. However, on Wednesday morning, the mare was revealed to have said her last goodbye to the tracks following her race over the week. 1st placing to the 16th, Win Marilyn’s record holds track names to marvel and a fiitting swansong.

On the 27th of December, World Horse Racing announced on X that Takahisa Tezuka-trained Win Marilyn would be retiring to her birthplace following retirement. “Happy retirement WIN MARILYN!” the post read, wishing the equine a happy path forward. The note further reported, “The Hong Kong Vase winner, who also ran at the @BreedersCup and in @RacingDubai this year, departed Miho for her birthplace – Cosmo View Farm in Niikappu – this morning.” The report entailed a video of the 6-year-old getting into her transport truck, ready for the next steps.

Win Marilyn’s last race was run at the 2023 Arima Kinen at the Nakayama Racecourse, where she placed 7th. However, the races prior held ensured to claim marveling titles and wins to host the 6-year-old to a respectful position.

The 6-year-old’s career to look at
Win Marilyn marked her horse racing beginning back in 2019, where she secured her 1st win. In the next 4 months, the 19 race starter held 2 more wins. One of which included Grade 2 Flora Stakes, followed by a 2nd place in G1 Japanese Oaks in 2020. Queen Elizabeth II, Tenno Sho, Breeders’ Cup, and Dubai Sheems Classic made up Win Marilyn’s prestigious race entries. Her placing in each read, 2nd, 5th, 4th, and 6th. However, her most remarkable win arrived at Hong Kong Vase in 2022.

She became the first mare to win the prestigious race at Sha Tin Racecourse since Daryakana in 2009 with the Vase. The mare clocked the time at 2 minutes, 27.53 seconds, 1 1/2 lengths ahead of Botanik. “She is the ultimate professional. She jumps well and travels sweetly. You can ride her wherever you want,” Jockey Damian Lane said after the win. Win Marilyn bid goodbye to her horse racing career with 5 wins and 2 placings.
