“Back With Us”: Trainer of Three-Time Dubai Turf Winner Lord North Reveals Gelding’s 2024 Campaign

With races happening all around the world, horse racing fans are in for a treat. In the days leading up to the big night of the Dubai World Cup, there have been a plethora of races. Each of these races, too, has been an absolute delight for the spectators. The hyped-up Dubai World Cup night would also be hosting the G1 Dubai Turf, which is one of the most anticipated races out there.

One of the reasons the Dubai Turf is so highly anticipated is because of Lord North, the reigning champion. Ever since its 2021 victory, the Irish gelding has been a crowd favorite at Meydan Racecourse. And, recently, its trainer, John Gosden, revealed about the champion horse’s 2024 season plan.

Looking forward to another crown at the Dubai Turf

John Gosden, the horse’s trainer, has been forthright about the animal ever since he first got his hands on it. Lord North’s relationship with Gosden has always been strong, despite the numerous victories and defeats they have endured together. Jockey Frankie Dettori has had a lot of success with the horse, having won several races on it, including three Dubai Turf wins. Although Lord North hasn’t set foot on a racecourse since the Dubai Turf in 2023, Gosden provided some updates about the horse’s campaign strategy for 2024 when he spoke with Racing Post.

Last Saturday, the horse did run at the Al Bahathri Polytrack, where his trainer deemed him fit. Gosden further added, saying, “He’s now back with us and is building up for another crack at the Dubai Turf, which he has won for the past three years.” Keeping their magnificent winning run going at Dubai Turf remains Lord North’s trainer’s top aim. But Gosden also awaits the G3 Winter Derby, which would be the horse’s first race in its 2024 season. The trainer also claims that the G3 race “isn’t a lot of help” for the gelding; it would serve as a preparatory round for the G1 event in March.

An entertainment filled night

The G1 Dubai World Cup is the highlight of a night that features eight additional races, including one of the highest-paid horse racing events in the world. In addition to these thrilling horse races, spectators at the massive Meydan Racecourse also enjoy a variety of other forms of entertainment throughout each of these events.

Additionally, horse racing fans at the 2023 Dubai Turf had an awesome day. Lord North, being the current champion, was one of the most anticipated horses. Once again, Frankie Dettori was on the horse, and the crowd was ready for anything. Suddenly, in the last stretch of the race, the horse astonished everyone by sprinting from last to first. Similarly, Lord North kept up its pace and triumphantly reached the finish line. The horse’s return to Meydan is now eagerly anticipated by fans, who can only hope for another stellar performance from it.
