Horse racing sensation’s career-altering update

A post from World Horse Racing on Twitter(X) recently updated the community with a video showing a glimpse of Golden Sixty’s routine. Accompanying the clip, the caption read, GOLDEN SIXTY may never race in Japan, but owner Stanley Chan confirms the champion will retire to Northern Farm in Hokkaido in the second half of 2024!

Upon his comeback, the stallion had to overcome the largest obstacle in the G1 LONGINES Hong Kong Mile after being away for 224 days. In the face of overwhelming odds, Golden Sixty won the coveted race for the third time, breaking the previous record held by Beauty Generation and Silent Witness with 19 career victories. Francis Lui has been training Golden Sixty, and their journey has been nothing short of extraordinary.

The stallion has left his mark on the annals of racing history with 25 wins, nine of them in Group 1 races, and the title of Hong Kong Horse of the Year for three years running. Fans have been eager to see what happens in the next chapter, though, as the news previously disclosed he will retire to Northern Farm in Hokkaido adds a new dimension to the story.

A highlight of the horse’s story so far

The incredible story of Golden Sixty’s travels gives his legacy more nuance. Agent Willie Leung directed Hong Kong trainer Francis Lui to choose the horse, which Hong Kong trainer Francis Lui paid $300,000 for at the 2017 New Zealand Bloodstock Ready to Run Sale. Graham Richardson, the horse’s trainer in New Zealand, started the journey by seeing the horse’s potential at an early age.
