William J. Butler’s homebred brown filly My Mane Squeeze ran in a tough duel with two opponents and won the Maid of the Mist Stakes by a comfortable three lengths. With improved records by 5-3-0-2, the 2021-born earned its newest career-defining horse racing win in $100,000 worth of Franklin Square Stakes.
What set this Stakes distinct was the 3-year-old fillies’ participation in a 6½-furlong race that fairly pitted New York fillies against one another. Examining the countless opportunities for success, the horse racing industry is far more complex than it appears at first glance.

A calculated stalk and pounce move set up My Mane Squeeze’s triumph in the Franklin Square. First, Bernie took charge, guided by rider Trevor McCarthy, who watched intently as Cara’s Time and Flight Control battled with the early lead. The first quarter-mile established a furious pace until they turned the corner. It’s when Flight Control led, Bernie grabbed the lead and My Mane Squeeze made a big surge to capture third place around the half-mile mark.
My Mane Squeeze took advantage of the momentum as the field straightened up and led the pack at the stretch call. With a last push, My Mane gained ground and eventually won by 1 1/4 lengths over Bernietakescharge. Later, McCarthy applauded Bernietakescharge by calling her a bright filly. Much praise poured in for the three-year-old’s promising win including kind words from its pilot.
