Outfielder J. D. Martinez on Thursday talked about the signing of shortstop, Trevor Story, and the challenges the Boston Red Sox might face in the AL East division during an interview. Martinez has been playing for the Red Sox since the MLB 2018 season when he was signed on a 5-year contract.

During an interview with Scott Braun and Cliff Floyd posted on Thursday, March 24th, 2022, J. D. Martinez expressed his thoughts about the Trevor Story signing. 

“We’re excited. He’s a great talent. He has proven back. He’s been doing it for years. We’re excited to add another bat to the offense,” stated Martinez when he was asked about his thought on Story’s recent signing with the Red Sox.

He also revealed his views about one of the most dangerous divisions in the MLB at present, the AL East Division.

“It’s gonna be a tough division, that’s for sure. The Jays are stacked up, the Yankees have made some changes. It’s definitely gonna be a battle,” said Martinez when asked about the AL East Division of MLB.

About the AL East Division

At present, the East Division of the American League is the toughest and most competitive division. AL East includes teams such as the Tampa Bay Rays, the Baltimore Orioles, the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays, and the Boston Red Sox.

The Tampa Bay Rays have been leading the stack for both the MLB 2020 and the MLB 2021 seasons in the AL East Division. In the MLB 2021 season, the Boston Red Sox ended third with 92 wins and 70 losses. 

With Trevor Story signing with the Red Sox, they may get an upper hand during the games this year. The 29-year-old shortstop signed from the Colorado Rockies. Story has signed a 6 year, $140 million contract with the Red Sox. The deal also includes an opt-out for Story, but only after the MLB 2025 season.

The Boston Red Sox will be facing the New York Yankees on the 2022 Opening Day, scheduled on April 7th, 2022, at the Yankee Stadium in New York, USA. Red Sox fans are hoping for a remarkable season from the newly signed superstar shortstop, Trevor Story.
