Is Olivia Dunne's GameDay appearance a sign of athletes branching out beyond their sports?

Besides dropping footage of her first training session for the upcoming season, Olivia Dunne excited fans after announcing her appearance on the College GameDay Show. Dunne, who has practiced gymnastics since she was a kid, had little knowledge of college football. The LSU gymnastics icon had to study football before appearing as the guest picker on the show.

Seeing her sister younger struggle to grasp the sport, Julz Dunne joked on Snapchat. “Like who trusted you with this?” Julz Dunne posted just ahead of Dunne and her boyfriend Paul Skenes making their picks. Now that game day is done and dusted, Livvy’s sister once again had a hilarious comment on her sister’s gig on the College GameDay Show.

“Some of my better guest pics,” Olivia Dunne wrote in the caption of her Gameday post. The 22-year-old posted several stills from the field, the stands, and the presenters’ table. However, amidst fans praising Dunne for exploring a new horizon, Julz took another hilarious jab at her sister. “You studied harder for that than the SAT,” Julz Dunne commented on the NCAA champion’s post.

However, Julz Dunne’s comment confirmed that her sister didn’t take responsibility lightly. On3’s Pete Nakos reported that Livvy, alongside her boyfriend and baseball star Paul Skenes, would appear on ESPN’s College GameDay Show ahead of Week 11’s LSU Tigers vs. Alabama Crimson Tide game at Tiger Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Expressing her excitement, Olivia Dunne wrote, “Can’t wait!!! Let’s geaux,” she needed to read up on the teams to make some educated picks. “Me studying football, so I don’t embarrass myself on college game day,” the 22-year-old posted on November 8. The video captured Dunne pretending to urgently take notes while watching a football game.

However, Julz Dunne wasn’t the only one who noticed her sister preparing for the gig. Livvy’s mother also commented on her daughter’s post. “Winning picks,” Katherine Dunne commented on her daughter’s post. However, the national champion also proved that she had studied football with a single comment on ESPN.

Have an interesting take?

While the high-stakes clash between LSU and Alabama had fans on the edge of their seats, Livvy Dunne’s comment took everyone by surprise. Although Dunne and Skenes appeared on the GameDay Show as they are among the biggest names to come out of LSU, Dunne and Skenes made picks for several other games. However, it was during the South Carolina vs. Vanderbilt pick that her comment stole the show.

“Someone once said that Vanderbilt was the easiest place to play in the SEC, but not today. I’m going with Vanderbilt,” said Olivia Dunne, taking a direct jab at Nick Saban. The 73-year-old commented ahead of Vanderbilt’s cash with Alabama on October 5. However, his comment didn’t age well as Vanderbilt handed the Crimson Tide their first loss of the season.

However, when all was said and done, the rookie guest pics didn’t fair exceptionally well either. Among the nine games where Skenes and Dunne picked the winners, five of them lost their games. LSU, Vanderbilt, Miami, Clemson, and Georgia lost their matches. However, Dunne correctly picked BYU, Army-North Texas, Colorado, and Indiana to win their Week 11 matches.

So it would seem that Olivia Dunne picking Vanderbilt didn’t turn out in her favor. However, despite joking about her sister, Julz Dunne, the 22-year-old’s fans praised Livvy for trying something new and still earning a measure of success as a rookie guest picker on ESPN.
