Is the sports world blind to the biases that cost Jordan Chiles her rightful Olympic medal?

There’s really nothing like the pain that comes from our blood relations; they truly get what we’re going through.

It hits even harder when a sister, who’s been there through thick and thin, is in pain. That’s how it is for Jordan Chiles and her sister, who will always have her back, no matter what. Even with her busy schedule, Jordan has managed to keep her family close and recognizes the sacrifices they’ve made for her dreams.

“My family had to sacrifice a lot of things, especially my siblings,” she said.

Being the youngest of 5—she has two older sisters, Jazmin and Jade, and two brothers, Tajmen and Tyrus—Jordan really feels the weight of those sacrifices. Her older sisters are like second mothers, always looking out for her. But what do you do when that caring sister faces a life-or-death situation? It hit the star athlete hard when her sister was left “with barely a pulse.” Just thinking about losing someone so close to her shook her to the core and made her cry loud.

Jordan Chiles’ sister Jazmin’s shocking brush with death

Just a year ago, on October 30, 2023, Jordan Chiles’ sister, Jazmin, faced a life-threatening situation. She shares a particularly close bond with Jazmin, who works as a makeup artist and hairstylist. Recently, Jazmin took to Instagram to reflect on that harrowing day.

She wrote, “A year ago – today- I was found unconscious with barely a pulse in a hotel room. I had lost over half the blood in my body into my abdomen. I was rushed into an ambulance while my sister watched them save my life. I am so grateful God kept me here. A lot of reflecting today… Sheesh.

Jazmin also expressed her disbelief about how the paramedics got in, saying, “I’m still unsure as to how the door was open for them to get in, the doctors said if the EMT would have got there just minutes after they did – I wouldn’t be here.”

Looking back on that scary day, Jazmin feels so grateful to be alive, showing just how much every moment with your loved ones matters. Despite being the younger sister, Jordan often calls her “twin” or “other half,” emphasizing the deep bond they share.

Moving on, so, remember the drama over Jordan Chiles’ bronze medal at the Paris Olympics? Even then, Jazmin was right there with her, showing amazing support and standing by her side.

Jazmin goes to battle for Jordan!

When Jordan Chiles was stripped of her Bronze medal, Jazmin quickly stepped up to defend her sister. The Court of Arbitration for Sport ruled that the judging panel made a mistake by allowing an inquiry that ultimately bumped Jordan’s score from fifth to third place. Jazmin didn’t hold back and took to Instagram, saying, “R—-m is real; it exists, it is alive and well.”

Her frustration went beyond just the ruling—it really highlighted the bigger issue of certain embarrassingly widespread biases in sports. She pointed out that the decision to take away Jordan Chiles’s medal had nothing to do with any performance issues. Jordan wasn’t disqualified for drug use or stepping out of bounds; it was all about the judges not recognizing how difficult her routines were.

Jazmin couldn’t believe that Jordan lost her medal over “FOUR SECONDS” which shouldn’t have even been a factor if the judges had done their jobs right. She further said, “I love you, baby sis.” When Chiles was struggling with self-esteem, she was there to support her even at that time.
