Like, there’s nothing left inside of me.” 

But Konnor’s grief didn’t end there. Just a week later, her paternal grandmother, Nisaa Seifullah, passed with the same complications as Marc McClain. Konnor later shared a post on Instagram: “My best friends, my rocks, my twins, and the best dad and grandma I could’ve asked for decided to say their goodbyes this past week.”  Though the grief is compounded, their legacy lives on via their traits and teaching in Konnor.

Konnor’s mother, Lorinda McClain has been a constant pillar in her life. Konnor hails from a family of sportspersons. Her mother, Lorinda, used to play soccer and also did cheerleading during her college days. When Konnor was born, Lorinda knew the other athlete of the family had arrived. Fast forward to 18 months, Lorinda enrolled Konnor in a baby gymnastics course, and no wonder, by 3, Konnor got competitive.

Lorinda witnessed Konnor’s maximized focus in gymnastics after the passing of her husband, Marc McClain; she tried to be there for Konnor. In an interview with ESPN, Lorinda shared that Konnor dug deep after her father’s passing. She worked harder than ever, and though the path to the Olympics now seemed even more challenging. “When Konnor’s dad passed away, she dug in and busted her butt that first year, and now she’s grown up and is looking at the big picture of life,” Konnor’s mom, Lorinda McClain, told ESPN. “Maybe this is going to be a harder route [to the Olympics], or maybe this is exactly what she needs.”

Konnor has three siblings: Cole, Olivia, and Deuce. All of them are engaged in one or the other sport; it surely runs in the family.
