It’s the fierce round of battle on Day 6 of the 2023 World Gymnastics Championship and the arena only gets more exciting. As 8 teams on the finals day move on from one apparatus to another, they need to keep an eye out for the tumbles along the way.
On the 6th of October, as the teams took to the ground to perform at the finals round of the 2023 Worlds, the day did not prove to be a kinder one for the gymnasts. Looking to attain the best of the scores on the floor, event, a 19-year-old Japanese Team gymnast ran into an obstacle; pushing her down the scoreboard.
World Gymnastics witness a devastating moment

As the 2023 Worlds picked a pace moving into the 6th day, Japanese gymnast Shoko Miyata stepped in to execute a graceful floor routine. The 19-year-old, who is known for her performance on the balance beam, earned a bronze at the 2022 World. However, her performance at the 2023 World as she performed her floor exercise did not result to be what she hoped for. Shoko, performing her routine, fell face-first on the floor following 2 flips in the air.

Nonetheless, despite her disappointing performance today, Miyata has earned a top 8 position in the Women’s vault with 13.9. The score places her right behind US gymnast, Joscelyn Roberson. The former’s previous performance provides her an edge forward going into the individual contentions in the approaching days.

Miyata leads Japan at the Worlds 2023
Japan entered the finals at the Worlds placing 8th on the table. The team entering the event was occupied by talents all afresh. However, the only leading star with experience that took the team ahead was Shoko Miyata. The 19-year-old, marking her Worlds debut back in 2022 at Liverpool took the initiative the head the team. Though the youngster finished 8th on the all-arounder, the journey covering the milestone wasn’t an easy one.

Earlier this year, Miyata was diagnosed with a stress fracture of her heel. The threatening injury was identified to have had the potential to cost Miyata her career.? ?He told me if I didn?t do something about it right away, I would never be able to compete again.?; Miyata said ahead of the All-Japan All-Around Championships.? The 19-year-old however stepped up to steady her pace and make her way towards the heights of the field. A misstep or a slip, Miyata has proven to conquer them all.
