On the first day of the 2023 World Gymnastics Championship, all five of the USA Teammates took the ground for the first battle. It was a Pommel Horse competition for the team aiming for the highest score. However, as each contested for his own, the commonality shared by Asher Hong, and Khoi Young was an interesting watch for the audience.

Asher and Khoi both hail from the University of Stanford, one of the very few institutes to support the declining sport of Men’s Gymnasts. Nonetheless, performing against each other during previous opportunities, Asher rose to be the hope of Team USA. While the audience had their eyes on the speculated star performer, Khoi Young sneakily emerged as a top performer at rotation 1. Outperforming his contenders, Khoi Young recorded a score of 15.066; earning the top spot.

Khoi and Hong hold a recognizable bond as they share an association from past events. The Stanford students were in a fierce contest amongst the two just this July. Hong and Khoi contested at the 2023 U.S. Championship where they confronted each other. However, the emerging victor in the end was the former; maintaining a difference of 1.475.
