Although Simone has created her legacy, the child in her has always remained the same. Simone Biles’ mother was unhappy with her goofy behavior

In 2014, when the Olympics was hosted in Nanning, China, the Biles family went to cheer their daughter. As the moment came when Simone was standing over the podium to receive her gold medal, a bee came by buzzing. The Bee came from the flower bouquet presented to the winners as a congratulatory gesture.

Describing the moment, Simone also wrote about the incident in her book ‘Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance.’ She described how her mother was worried about seeing her jumping around the podium.

She said, “The video of the bee incident was everywhere the next day. My mom called my brother Ron from China to complain that I’d ruined my special moment with what she called “typical Simone antics.” She said she and my dad had been feeling so proud and emotional, watching from the audience as I received my second World Championship all-around gold, and then suddenly I was jumping down from the podium and hopping around like a maniac.”

She further explained how her brother made her mother better understand the situation. “Ron, who’d watched the bee chase on TV and laughed till his sides hurt, helped Mom feel better about the whole thing. “That’s Simone for you,” he told her. “She’s just always been a goofy and down-to-earth kid. And you know what, it might actually be good for people to see who she is. What you see is what you get with Simone,” Simone concluded.

Simone’s not-so-goofy legacy

The 25-year-old gymnast became the first woman in 40 years to receive four gold medals in a single World Championship. Incredibly, she won all-around, floor, vault, and balance beam titles. She got the title of GOAT right at the beginning of her career.

Unfortunately, as she moved forward, she caught up in the twisties in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and had to withdraw her name. Since then, she has been actively advocating for mental health awareness. Putting aside her career, she is currently focusing on her upcoming wedding with NFL player Jonathan Owens.
