Simone Biles has achieved her big dreams, becoming the greatest gymnast of all time. With four golden Olympic medals, she proved her worth to her parents, who played an important role in her life. In addition, Simone’s grandparents, who adopted her from foster care when she was little, demonstrate her success.

However, one thing that got unnoticed by Simone’s success was her biological mother’s dreams. In her book, she describes how Nellie Biles has to sacrifice her lifelong dreams to raise her. Nellie never left a chance to encourage and cheer her daughter Simone from the crowd.

Simone Biles’ mother’s unaccomplished dreams

In her book ‘Courage to Soar: A Body in Motion, A Life in Balance,’ the gymnast elaborates on her mother’s difficult decision. She described how her mother welcomed her siblings with wide open hands. Yet, being aware that it would double the size of her family, she never flinched. She wrote, “My grandparents were almost done raising their boys, and now here we were, four young children who needed the kind of attention and care that Grandma Nellie thought she was about to retire from.”

Simone explains, “She needed time to wrap her mind around the idea of doubling the size of her family. She also had to make peace with the fact that her dreams of traveling the world would have to be put on hold. Busy as she was with her nursing career, she also worried about whether she could truly give us the care we needed, especially after the disruption we’d experienced with Shanon.”

While Biles describes how she and Adria were easygoing, her siblings were not. “Grandma figured that Adria and I would be easy enough, but Ashley and Tevin had much stronger memories of life with Shanon. Understandably, they were very attached to her,” She said. Putting her dreams aside, Simone’s mother proudly cherished her on every victory. Rightly said, no one can truly compare the love of a mother to her kids.

The lasting love of mother-daughter

With time Simone became the diamond of gymnastics. However, there was a time when her mother was harsh with her. She had described in her book how Nellie kept a distance from Simone and gymnastics when she was little. In addition, once her mother scolded her, saying, “I’m not your fan, Simone; I’m mom.”

However, as little Biles grew up, she understood the sweetness within the harshness. After elaborating on her mother’s sacrificed dreams, she added, “She was so glad that she had because the child was doing well and had brought such joy to her life. “That child has been God’s gift to me.”
