Her incredible routines on an array of apparatuses made her the most dominant gymnast in the field. Naturally, she also started getting a lot more invites to red carpet events. With her growing fame, Biles could no longer walk around in her same pair of comfortable sweats anymore.
Simone Biles had a wardrobe change thanks to her fame
With the public’s attention on Simone Biles as the greatest gymnast of our time, she quickly rose to celebrity status. Every move went through media scrutiny, and Biles realized that she needed to change one fundamental thing after becoming famous: her clothing choices.
Talking to Access in 2021, the gymnast revealed that experimenting with fashion has been a lot of fun. But it’s not as easy as it sounds. “It has but it’s also like trying to keep up with all the fashion trends,” she said. “It’s like how much wardrobe do we need, it’s kind of a lot. And now, being in more of a public eye, obviously, there’s more judgment.”
Standing with her close friend and Olympian Jordan Chiles, Biles gestured to her left and said, “She’s a sneakerhead. We like to be in sweats and stuff. But now it’s like we should probably wear something other than that.” Biles mentioned that she’d rather be in comfortable clothing. Here, athleisure comes as a good compromise.

Perhaps the best example of Simone Biles’ new celebrity look would be her entry for the 2021 Met Gala. The most decorated gymnast in World Championship history, walked down that red carpet with a three-in-one, 88-pound gown.
The outfit consisted of a hand-embellished skirt covered in Swarovski crystals, with a mini dress underneath. To top it off, it included a glittering black catsuit decorated to look like a starry night sky. “I want to say to little girls in general, you can be tough in any sport you want to be, and you can be strong,” she commented on her gown.

“On the other end, you can come out feeling empowered and beautiful and wear gowns like this and step out of your comfort zone. You don’t have to be just an athlete; at the end of the day, we’re people too,” she continued. As an inspiration to thousands of little girls chasing after the Olympic dream, Biles set a perfect example of finding beauty in your own way.
