‘Not everything always goes as we plan.’ The saying became particularly true for Oregon State as they got their NCAA gymnastics ball rolling. They have been reminded how all plans don’t always pan out despite the best intentions. As the Beavers take on Brigham Young University at the Gill Coliseum, the fans were left hanging with delayed live updates due to unforeseen circumstances.
After defeating Jordan Chiles’ UCLA last Saturday, Oregon State returned home to host tonight’s visitors with gusto. Ahead of the clash, the team promised to keep up with the action via the internet and social media for the fans’ benefit. However, they soon realized it wasn’t going to happen and took to X on January 11 to share how things weren’t going their way. “Internet: not cooperating,” reads the post caption, noting how the previous “Available 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐫𝐞,” claim was going to be a difficult thing to maintain.
However, the post still managed to get the news in on how 2x Olympic gold medalist Jade Carey started off things with a bang. On the vault, the Beavers senior posted an incredible 9.900 on vault to open the books and give Oregon State a head start at the Gill Coliseum. The team posted 48.875 on vault after the first rotation thanks to her incredible performance.

With the Beavers looking to keep their winning streak going, it was naturally frustrating for the fans not to get proper updates on the progress of the meet. It was previously mentioned that Oregon fans could follow live stats via YouTube and the Pac-12 Insider network, but with the internet playing spoilsport, they had to resort to X to look for the live scores from tonight’s thriller.

Pac-12 Insider is also available to stream via Amazon Prime for USA fans, making things more accessible. The Oregon State squad thus hoped to bring more followers on board for its five home schedules this season. But all that promise fell flat on its face when technical difficulties proved to be the biggest obstacle. However, nothing could keep the Beavers girls from showing their skills emphatically for the fans to later gush about. The Beavers defeated BYU 196.400-194.200.
Oregon State finds its mojo once again
Jade Carey’s opening routine injected a boost in her system that carried her all the way to the All-Around title tonight. The Team USA member hauled a total of 39.725 points, while BYU’s Kylie Eaquinto posted the second-highest point (39.050). Carey also clinched all the individual events in the bars (9.950), beam (9.925), and floor routine (9.950), showcasing her elite status.

Last year, the Beavers ended the Pac-12 Gymnastics Championship in fifth place. Despite the not-so-great result, Jade Carey still got to bag the floor exercise title, highlighting how Oregon State isn’t a squad you should discount. Relying on her once again, the team looks to make things more exciting this time around.
At last weekend’s season opener, the American Gold Women’s Collegiate Gymnastics Classic, the Beavers finished above UCLA but were still bested by No. 4 California. However, after the meeting, Coach Chaplin noted her admiration of how the team performed and instead hinted that the new evaluation system might have played spoilsport. But she also noted that the new rules helped the athletes to understand what’s at stake and how to get better at what they do.
