One of the greatest to ever step on the floor, Simone Biles, is also just a human. An athlete whose vulnerability and honesty have led to many reforms in the gymnastics world and the sports sphere in general. She’s opened her heart in many interviews and to her adoring fans who’ve supported her through some of the worst times in her personal and professional lives.

But it is a rare thing to see another mega-star open up her heart to Biles. In this instance, it was the Grammy-winning artist SZA, also known for her honesty with the fans. When they met up after the Olympian secured her 3rd trip to the big games, it was natural for them to talk about gymnastics. Fun fact about the million-record-selling singer, she was also a gymnast!

In the gym, where the two icons met up, they started to flex and warm up before their beam dismounts. When warming up, Biles cautiously warned SZA not to hurt herself, but the pop star was more concerned about losing to Biles in front of NBC’s camera crew.

Then SZA opened up, saying, “When it was like, clear to me that I wasn’t going to be like, a national gymnast. I was like, ‘Okay, let me see what I can do.’ What else I can be good at?” Picking up on that, Biles immediately added, “So, it was kind of like a hidden talent?” To which the pop star added, “Yeah and I just needed something to be competitive at.” Showing her inner sportswoman aura.

The two then continued to warm up, trading one-liners and casual talk that showed there was a friendship budding that would certainly get SZA hooked to see Simone at the Paris Olympics. But this friendship might raise the thought. Have the two met before?

No, they haven’t ever met face-to-face, at least never recorded on camera. But this isn’t the first time the two have connected. While digital, SZA has always been supportive of Simone Biles and her gymnastics career. Just last month, when Biles outshined her competition and scored an unbelievable 60+ total points, SZA was ready to give her flowers where it mattered, dubbing Simone Biles her “King”.

This infatuation with Biles is one that grew out of SZA’s very own gymnastics obsession that translated into beautiful performances on stage. So, it isn’t the first time she has opened up about her gymnastics career. But when asked about the reason behind why she quit it, she joked that it was ‘boys’ that took her out of the sport, but her recent confession leads to another direction.
