Is IShowSpeed's determination in gymnastics a sign of true talent or just sheer stubbornness?

IShowSpeed has been taking over all headlines this week. Last week, the streamer incited a huge debate in the track and field community after his 50-meter dash with Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles, which he barely lost, according to himself. Many people seem to agree with him and feel that he genuinely has huge talent, while others say that Noah was barely trying and still defeated him comfortably.

This week, however, Speed has decided to trade the track for a gymnastics mat instead, as he trained alongside Olympic bronze medalist Fred Richard. Both of them had a friendly high jumping competition with each other, which IShowSpeed really wanted to win. “There’s nobody on this planet who can jump higher than me!” he declared before the start. Fred’s condition was that the loser had to take an ice bath, which the streamer agreed to do.

IShowSpeed did better than Fred expected as he landed well on the six-foot barrier, which surprised the gymnast. But it was the seven-foot one that ended the competition. While the gymnast landed perfectly, Speed’s knees touched the mat, making him lose the dual. Even though he still claimed that he completed the jump, “I did it, I did it,” he shouted, but the viewers knew the winner. Another incident took place in the gym when they both were training.

Fred Richard was training IShowSpeed on how to do a double backflip. After listening to his remarks, he attempted to make the move but landed abruptly on his head, almost breaking his neck. Now breaking the neck can have serious implications, paralysis for one. So it is understandable that the trauma endured led to “PTSD” as mentioned in the post.

In an Instagram reel uploaded by Frederick Richard titled ‘Helping Ishowspeed overcome PTSD’, he was seen training the streamer to overcome his fears over the fall, which was clearly visible through the actions. The gymnast wanted him to get to the basics. “Break that mental barrier; you gotta go back to the basics.” After trying countless times and failing, he was given a spotter to give him more confidence. Even then, he was struggling.

But, finally, IShowSpeed overcame his apprehensions and completed the routine. “So proud of your speed,” read the caption of the video after he finally completed the task. The streamer’s sincerity in his tasks showed a different side to his normal nature and has earned a lot of praise from the fans. This was pretty similar to the praise he earned from a section of fans after he raced arguably the fastest man in the world right now.

IShowSpeed’s race with Noah Lyles

In one of the most interesting crossover events of the year, IShowspeed raced Olympic gold medalist Noah Lyles in a 50-meter dash in his live stream. The winner would take home $100,000 promised by popular YouTuber Mr. Beast. Obviously, before the race, most expected Noah to absolutely annihilate the streamer, showing the gulf of class between both of them.

While the result did turn out as expected, with Noah Lyles winning the race, Speed did earn a lot of praise. This is because many believed that the final race was quite close and the streamer was not far behind the gold medalist. However, many others claimed that Noah wasn’t taking matters seriously and practically jogged the last 10 meters.

There’s also the fact that small margins can actually mean huge distances in track and field. Thus, the race wasn’t exactly close. But, while most agreed with this theory, many fans did believe that the effort shown by IShowspeed was incredible, and with better training, he could achieve great numbers. While it is yet to be seen what lies in his future, Speed seems quite interested in being an athlete and could participate in future competitions with the right training.
