At a very young age, her mother gave Biles along with her three siblings to foster care, as she wasn’t able to support them. Simone published her autobiography, wherein she spoke about her entire journey up until she reached the top.
The time Simone Biles felt like a tomboy
Growing up in foster care often prevented Simone from experiencing things people with their biological children could. While her foster parents treated them well, they were extra careful regarding their safety. Hence, Simone was not allowed to do anything which could cause her any physical injury.
This included the trampoline in the yard. In her book, Simone mentions how she used to watch her foster siblings playing on the trampoline from the sidelines. Writing about how much she wanted to try it too, Simone wrote, “I’d watch my foster parent’s biological children, who were older than us, flipping and somersaulting and having so much fun on that trampoline, and I wanted so badly to join them.”

Simone further wrote that her compact frame was the reason for her restrictions. However, she felt like she could easily do what the older kids were doing, as she thought of herself as a “fearless little tomboy.” Biles writes, “But I just knew I could do the moves the older kids did- I was already a fearless little tomboy. I had these miniature six-pack abs and lighting-fast legs.”
