It is important to note that this is not the first but the fourth time Biles has won the prestigious Champion of Champions 2023 honor from L’Équipe, having won the title in 2016, 2018, and 2019 as well. This well-deserved honor bestowed upon the queen comes as another epic level unlocked on her list in 2023. And is a few of many.
Simone Biles’ 2023 crowning glory
Simone Biles’ crowning achievement in 2023 began at the Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships, where she became the oldest woman ever to win the U.S. Gymnastics Championships All-Around title at 26 years and 166 days old. She surpassed the iconic Linda Metheny Mulvihill, who was 24 and 100 days old in 1971 when she won the honor. Apart from this, Biles also tied with Japan’s legend Kōhei Uchimura when she clinched her 6th All-Around title at the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
If that wasn’t enough, seven-time Olympic medalist Simone Biles also surpassed the legendary Vitaly Scherbo for the most medals by any gymnast, male or female, in World Championship history with a staggering 34 medals. To top it all off, she also placed ahead of the iconic Soviet gymnast Larisa Latynina, who previously held the title of most decorated gymnast ever with 32 World Championship and Olympic medals combined.
