Simone Biles is enjoying a much-deserved escapade with the love of her life, Jonathan Owens. Ever since the duo got married, hectic schedules have been plaguing their opportunity to coincide with each other and spend some quality time. Although Biles and Owens did enjoy a romantic vacation before starting her Olympic journey back in early 2024, that was pretty much it. As the US gymnast got busy with her Olympic preparations, Owens too landed a lucrative deal with the Chicago Bears that got him occupied. 

Even though the duo had occasional meetups, they were not quite able to get a complete romantic getaway to themselves. Thankfully, with Owens’ NFL season wrapping up, Biles saw a perfect time to explore the city of New York. And as per Biles’ constant updates, they are doing it all. From fun drinks to breathtaking views, Biles and Owens have been living life to the fullest. The 7x Olympic gold medalist dropped the first Instagram story back on January 11, 2025, where she posted her diamond ring and wrote, “I love traveling W/ you.” And since then, it has been a never-ending parade of cozy dinners, ramen dates, strolling along the city lanes, and more. However, along the way, there have been some awkward encounters that the couple had to endure. 

Sharing one such experience, Biles posted an Instagram story on January 13, 2025. She captured Jonathan Owens calling for a taxi while captioning the video, “TAXIIIIIII”. Now, for the ones unfamiliar, it might seem that what’s so awkward about signaling for a taxi? Well, in New York City, it surely is a thing! While it is advisable to book a cab beforehand, calling a taxi on the go can be really hectic due to the rush in traffic. Understandably, Biles wanted to record the rare moment of Owens being able to get a taxi on the go! 

And it’s not only Biles, but there have been more instances of celebrities sharing their hilarious experiences about NYC taxi booking. Rakeem Christmas, an American basketball player, posted on X back on March 9, 2012, “Yo dese taxi’s in nyc aint no joke took forever for me n @MJCWilliams to get one #StraightBossSomePeopleForOne lol.” 

Dave Chappelle too could be spotted making jokes about having a hard time catching taxis in NYC in a video uploaded by ‘Daily Dose Of Comedy Clips’ on YouTube three years back. Meanwhile, shrugging aside the awkwardness, Simone Biles also had some wholesome moments during her stay in NYC. One of them being a heartfelt meetup with Rebeca Andrade. 

Simone Biles gets an emotional reunion with Rebeca Andrade

Simone Biles and Rebeca Andrade are surely two shining stars of the gymnastics world. And while their rivalry kept the entire world hooked during the Paris games, outside of the mat, both are extremely good friends. In her recent trip to NYC, Biles attended the Vtex Connect in New York on January 13th. In a wholesome moment, the US gymnastics queen shared the stage with Brazilian gymnastics legend, Rebeca Andrade. While they hugged and exchanged pleasantries, Biles revealed an honest confession about Andrade’s home country. 

Reflecting on her time at Rio in 2016, Biles stated that she was new to all the grand glitz and glamor. However, the people of Brazil were warm enough to extend their support towards Biles. She said, “That was my very first Olympics, and Brazil embraced me as one of their own, even though I was American, and they loved on me… and they still support me.” Next up, she was seen heaping praises on her Brazilian rival.

“I absolutely love and adore Rebeca… The way she paved Brazilian gymnastics… is definitely unmatched… I love her, and I love that resilience,” Biles added. Thus, with a mixture of awkward experiences coupled with a lot of memories, Simone Biles’ NYC escapade is surely giving her a much-needed rejuvenation from her tightly packed schedule.
