Imagine there being a GOAT on the field on Turkey Day. Well, that’s what happened on November 28 at Ford Field when Simone Biles attended the Thanksgiving Day game between the Detroit Lions and her husband’s Chicago Bears. Decked out in a Bears jacket and carrying a clear purse bedazzled with Jonathan Owens’ name, Biles was on a tight schedule. “I’ll fly up in the morning and fly right back, just so we can still spend Thanksgiving together.” She also made an admission, one that’s true three weeks later, too.
“Holidays are revolving around sports right now, especially in the football world with them sometimes playing,” Simone Biles told Us Weekly. And it’s true. Yes, Thanksgiving is the NFL’s day, and Christmas is the NBA’s. But that doesn’t mean football players don’t have games around Christmas. They do, and Jonathan Owens – who signed a 2-year, $4.75 million contract with the Bears this year – will lock horns with the Seattle Seahawks in Soldier Field on December 26. So, what’s Biles up to?
Well, during Thanksgiving, she and Owens planned a feast for his Bears family. As the gymnast revealed before that November 28 game, “We’ll just have a chef come and cook. I think some of his teammates will come through and grab a plate, especially if they don’t have family in the area. It is a little bit more difficult, but it is kind of nice that we can just relax.” It looks like they have similar plans for their second Christmas as a married couple, too.

More often than not, Simone Biles spends the holidays with her entire family, but things will likely be just a smidge different this time around. Christmas 2024 will involve her and Jonathan Owens just spending time with each other in their Chicago home. As the Chicago Bears safety gets ready for the Seahawks showdown, Biles has kept herself busy with a very important task—decorating their house. But that seems to have hit a snag (if the gymnast’s recent revelation is anything to go by).
I’ve been begging Jonathan to go down in the basement and get the tree,” Biles told People in an exclusive interview. Well, you can’t have Christmas without a tree, can you? At least, in the Biles-Owens household, you don’t. Remember last year when the couple wore matching PJs, drank festive candy cane cocktails, and decorated a blue and white Christmas tree? Back then, Owens was still with the Green Bay Packers, where the safety posted 84 combined tackles, 2 tackles for loss, a defensive touchdown, 3 pass deflections, and a sack. While he was set to become a free agent post-2023, the Bears saw his potential and signed him.
Now, before he gets to helping Chicago win their post-Christmas tie against the Seahawks, Simone Biles needs him to do one final thing in preparation for the holiday: get the tree out of their basement. Will it be the same blue and white one? Guess we’ll find out in a few days. But one thing’s for sure: it’ll be just the two of them at home on December 25. And Biles is really looking forward to it. “This will be the first Christmas that we’ll spend alone together as a couple, which is actually really nice,” the 27-year-old confessed.

This holiday season for Simone Biles is all about slowing down and relaxing… but a holiday experience from 2016 with her family may not have been that. The gymnast had a memorable beach getaway with her family during the holiday season in 2016. While that was as relaxing as it could’ve gotten, the fact that they even swam with sharks may not have been! Documenting that trip on Twitter, Biles even shared that her family went fishing and caught 35 fish! One of her posts was quite wholesome: a picture of the Biles clan, captioned, “I got the only thing I asked for for Christmas… FAMILY TIME ❤😭 LOVE YALL 💋😘.”
This year has especially been a whirlwind for the GOAT. She triumphantly redeemed herself by clinching 4 Olympic medals—3 golds and 1 silver—in Paris. Shortly after, the gymnast shared updates on her and Owens’ dream house in Houston, Texas, which is close to completion (they’ll move in after the NFL season is under wraps). Amidst all this, she also embarked on the Gold Over America Tour. Through it all, the Olympian looked forward to spending more quality time with her family. And if you think about it, Simone Biles is getting just that even this Christmas – family time with Johnathan Owens.
After the year she’s had, Biles’ statement from last year’s holiday season rings true now more than ever: “The holidays can be hectic, but this is a reminder to slow down, be present, and really take in this special time of year.” The 11-time Olympic medalist took on a special task leading up to the time of year. She participated in a Texas decorating contest, and the gymnast was up for the challenge!
Based on a few glimpses from YouTube, the gymnast incorporated elements from her journey, like a trophy podium and two golden-coated goats wearing gold medals. If the 27-year-old wins, she will receive a $100,000 Sports Matter Grant from DICK’S Sporting Goods and The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation. On the other hand, how does the Chicago Bears’ safety feel about spending more time with his wife this season?

Jonathan Owens expresses gratitude for time with Simone Biles
The loving duo tied the knot back in April 2023. Although they spent a few fleeting moments together, the power couple had to deal with long distance for most of it. Despite it all, they have made up for lost time recently. After concluding her Gold Over America Tour, Biles has spent a lot of time on the gridiron, supporting her husband. In fact, the Chicago Bear safety paid tribute to the Olympian by celebrating a fumble in the game against the Minnesota Vikings with a gymnast-style pose.
When Jonathan Owens was asked what it was like to have the 27-year-old with him in Chicago, without holding back, the athlete confessed how he enjoyed playing in front of his wife, adding, “I’ve been here by myself with the dog, so having some help there. She’s like, ‘Oh babe, I can take him to the vet now,’ and I’m like, ‘Man, this is amazing!'” The 29-year-old highlighted another advantage of being in Chicago: the city has numerous spots for a fun date night.
He reiterated that the city has good food, which works for the duo since they’re both big foodies. So what do they do? The lovebirds often check out new places and restaurants to explore together. However, that isn’t the only thing the Chicago Bears safety is thankful for. Jonathan Owens admitted that Simone Biles has helped him become the best version of himself. “Everyone else is going to drink the Kool-Aid and tell you how good you are. But it’s always about having someone who can bring you down to earth a little bit,” he admitted.
Even though the Olympian doesn’t know much about football, she always makes it a point to hype him up, and Owens respects it. While the duo can’t spend time with Simone Biles’ family, they will make it a point to ensure this Christmas will be as special as ever.
