“Holidays are revolving around sports right now, especially in the football world with them sometimes playing,” Simone Biles once told US Weekly. This has proven true for the G.O.A.T. and her NFL husband, Jonathan Owens. They happened to spend Thanksgiving in Detroit when the Chicago Bears locked horns with the Detroit Lions. Even though the game took over their plans, they still celebrated with a feast for his Bears family.

However, this wasn’t surprising. Thanksgiving is the NFL’s day, and Christmas is huge in the NBA. Yet, the power couple had to forgo their traditions for a quieter celebration by themselves. Why’s that? The Bears faced off against the Seattle Seahawks in Soldier Field on December 26, and the Olympian was in the stands cheering her husband on. With an eventful year coming to an end, how will the love birds ring in the new year?

Simone Biles reveals her cozy New Year Plans

2024 has been busy for Simone Biles. At the Paris Olympics, the gymnast successfully pulled off a redemption tour and unveiled the second edition of the Gold Over America Tour shortly after. Her husband wasn’t far behind as Owens’ busy NFL schedule kept him on his toes. Yet, the duo looks forward to winding down as they bid the year adieu. In an exclusive interview with Olympics.com, the 27-year-old spilled the beans on their New Year plans. But wait, there’s a twist.

The Olympian might possibly refrain from one popular tradition. When she was asked if she had any New Year resolutions, she confessed, “No, because I feel like you always break them. I don’t have any.” Even though the gymnast “never really” makes any resolutions, the love birds are keeping it simple, “Ring in the New Year… I feel like he plays shortly after.”

Simone Biles hilariously added that they will be in bed by 10:30 pm before the ball drops. However, Owens found a way to make this moment special for his wife. “And he said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll get up. I’ll set an alarm for 12 so I could kiss you,'” the Olympian admitted. But they don’t intend to stay up longer than required. She confessed that they would go back to sleep right after!

Sounds like quite a cozy way to ring in the new year, but they had a similar plan for Christmas. With Jonathan Owens’s strict schedule, they were couped up in a hotel room on December 25. The 27-year-old even shared a few stories. One of them was an image of them in bed, captioned, “Christmas looks a little different when you’ve got to report to the hotel.” However, she spent some time with Torrie Brown, Bears’ tight end Marcedes Lewis’ partner. On the other hand, this wasn’t the only surprise the gymnast received.

Athleta gave the 11x Olympic medalist a well-deserved shoutout

Simone Biles signed on with Gap Inc.’s Athleta in 2021 because they shared the same mission – to champion the next generation of female athletes, and since then have worked towards taking it forward. However, as the year slowly comes to an end, the company reflected on their third year together with the G.O.A.T.

On their official Instagram account, Athleta shared a video of images and moments from 2024, captioned, “After spending 2024 with @simonebiles, we have just two words: Thank you.” But they didn’t just stop there. They looked back on fond memories of her in Paris, the Gold Over America Tour, her photoshoots, and even her Netflix debut.

After witnessing all these iconic moments, the company was grateful to have been with her and expressed their excitement for the upcoming year. In fact, Athleta had something else to celebrate. As Simone Biles picked up three more golds in Paris, they reported sales of $419 million. While their numbers went down by -4%, the performance improved compared to the previous quarter.

On the other hand, the Olympian launched her first product collaboration that featured apparel for both women and children. The multi-generational line features two products for girls and five for women, ranging between $28 and $199. With this, her products are accessible to families looking to dress the next generation of young gymnasts. It’s safe to say, as busy as this year has been, the 27-year-old has found the ideal way to wind down with Jonathan Owens. What do you think of their laidback plans?
