The gymnast went to the Paris Olympics keeping in mind that she had a point to prove after her withdrawal from the Tokyo Olympics and ended up doing just that. Simone won four medals, with three golds and one silver, showing everyone that she’s the best in the world. Of course, then she followed it up with her ‘Gold Over America Tour’ and numerous appearances in reality shows like ‘The Voice.’ Thus, it’s safe to say she has been really busy.

But even among all of this, Simone Biles found time to attend her husband Jonathan Owens’ NFL games, where he represents the Chicago Bears. Many fans have appreciated their chemistry off the pitch, and some even asked Simone to join him as a player. Thus, she has been a massive hit with NFL fans as well. However, there was one particular thing that caught a lot of fans’ attention.

And that’s a unique handshake between Simone and Jonathan. Simone Biles was recently asked about their unique handshake in a YouTube video for the Olympics gymnastics page seen during an NFL game. The gymnast was asked about who came up with the handshake celebrations, which took place on the football field. Simone Biles said that not only does Jonathan Owens conceptualize the handshakes, but he also sets up practically everything involved with the sport, and the gymnast just participates in it.

She said, “That’s Jonathan. Jonathan thinks up all of the things. Handshakes, pregame rituals, what he needs to eat before. All Jonathan.” The handshake in question took place during the Chicago Bears game against the Minnesota Vikings.

Jonathan Owens and Simone Biles were seen sharing a unique action that had three moves. First, both of them shook each other’s hands, then they kissed each other before pushing each other through their backs. Sports Illustrated has described this handshake as the ‘Philly Tush push Chicago style.’ The fact that Jonathan came up with this shows that he is quite meticulous about everything when it comes to football.

The handshake could also be perceived as a ritual he does for the game. This shows the supporting partnership that both of them share with each other. They have shown this quite evidently in the now-concluded Gold Over America Tour, where Jonathan was seen visiting Simone regularly despite his busy NFL schedule and even taking part in some of the gymnastics skills. Thus, Jonathan Owens is definitely a great sporting husband and has also learned so much about Simone’s sport.

Jonathan Owens is often spotted supporting and cheering Simone Biles. One such instance was the Paris Olympics, where he used to carry a diary to keep Simone’s scores while she was competing. He was also constantly seen in the stands cheering for his wife and even realized the depth of her competition with Rebeca Andrade.

“We get to the competition. You know there are countries there. I have Brazil sitting in front of me. So they were talking in their language, and there was a girl who was from Brazil. That’s like her number one competitor, so I got the US flag behind them. I’m right there and they like ‘Brazil!’ No ‘USA’,” he said in the Intercepted podcast. Thus, it’s fair to say that he keeps quite some knowledge about the sport. This was proved even more so when Simone was asked in the same YouTube video who in the couple has more knowledge about the other’s sport.

The gymnast had no hesitation in saying that it was her husband who had more knowledge about gymnastics, and so much so that he is now quite well-versed in it. Simone was asked whether she was the one teaching it to him. She said, “Well, I could probably explain it to a 5-year-old, but if I’m explaining it to a 25-year-old, it might not make sense… Jonathan. He knows so much about gymnastics.”

This pretty much shows how much Jonathan Owens adores his wife, as when he met Simone Biles, he was not interested in the sport at all. Now, he has been seen performing backflips at the GOAT’s tour and taking notes. Thus, it seems that love for someone could make them learn their significant other’s trade in a way that they can be considered an expert in it.
