Home/Gymnastics

Simone Biles and Cecile Landi shared such a solid coaching bond for almost seven years, and honestly, it was hard to imagine it not being a success. Simone took home six Olympic medals during their time together, so it was pretty clear they were a dream team. But even when Cecile, last year, made a decision to move from WCC (owned by Biles’ parents) to No. 15 Georgia Gymnastics as co-head coach, the two didn’t just go their separate ways. Simone supported her by saying, “I can’t think of a more deserving person. Can’t wait to see what the future holds for UGA gymnastics!” But the big question is: Were those just kind words, or does Simone hold no grudges inside?

Simone Biles has shown just how much she supports Cecile Landi, even after Cecile moved on from WCC, and she’s proving it once again. Simone’s going to be at the Georgia-Boise State gymnastics meet this Friday, not just to celebrate the Olympics and alumni night with the GymDogs, but also because Cecile, her coach from 2017 to 2024, is now co-head coach at Georgia. With two days left until the event, Georgia Gymnastics has already earned enough profit. This shows Simone’s support isn’t just talk; it’s true loyalty. But here’s the real question: how much have they earned so far?

Georgia Gymnastics will be starting its 2025 NCAA season this Friday, January 17. With a sold-out crowd, they compete against Boise State. It’s an extra special meet because it’s Cecile Canqueteau-Landi’s first one coaching the NCAA team after joining Georgia post-Olympics. And, of course, she’s got some serious support! One of the special guests in attendance will be none other than Simone Biles, the 11-time Olympic medalist.

With such a massive fan following, it’s no surprise the tickets sold out quickly. And yes, it did! The event will take place at Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, which has a seating capacity of 10,523. The meeting starts at 7 p.m., and it’s sure to be an exciting evening. Now, let’s talk numbers.

The ticket prices ranged from $13 to $26, but if we take the average price as $16, here’s how they earned profit. Seats available are 10,523, and each ticket costs $16, so multiply $16 by 10,523, which will fetch you $168,368. The ticket prices for this event are now higher, with some tickets available on Seatgeek for over $100 due to the event’s sold-out status. That is the revenue that is being collected from only the base ticket price. Of course, if regarding the high price of tickets, one could add even greater revenue. Georgia Gymnastics gained much profit in any case. Now you may ask why Cecile Canqueteau-Landi left the WCC team of Simone Biles to join Georgia Gymnastics.

Why did Cecile Landi leave coaching Biles for Georgia Gymnastics?

Cecile Landi has been the personal coach of Simone Biles for the last seven years, and those years have been special. But they spent some memorable times together, for example, in the summer of 2024 when Simone won three gold medals in the team, all-around, and vault, and the silver in the floor exercise in Paris. They began working together in 2017 when Cecile and her husband Laurent began coaching at World Champions Elite (WCC), the gym in Texas that Simone’s parents, Ron and Nellie Biles, own.

Last year in December, in an interview on the Flipping Out with Bridget Sloan podcast, Cecile explained why she decided to leave. She said, “I’ve always said I wanted to be an NCAA coach one day. I just wanted to finish where we have started.” Initially, Cecile wanted to start the college coaching after her daughter Juliette was through with high school, but when the offer from Georgia opened up, there was no way she could let it go.

After refusing at first due to her commitment to help Simone achieve her dreams first, that was the Olympics that time, Cecile decided to become the co-head coach with Ryan Roberts, who contacted her just weeks before the Olympics. And then she was convinced! With such support, Cecile decided to leap, accepting the job and being skeptical but extremely excited to be starting a new chapter with the Gymdogs. She is anticipating the same success story in Georgia as she recorded with Simone Biles at WC. Only time will tell if she’ll be able to do the same!
