After dazzling the crowd at the United Center in Chicago, Simone Biles and Co. have arrived in Philadelphia. After cheering husband Jonathan Owens, who played for the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field in the morning, Biles performed for the crowd at the United Center that same night. Now, after a few days of some well-deserved rest, she, alongside a fleet of Olympians, is ready to impress Philadelphia.

The Wells Fargo Center is the brainchild of the late Ed Snider. Snider was a former chairperson at the Philadelphia Flyers and hoped to build a state-of-the-art facility for the NHL team. That dream came true in 1996 when Wells Fargo Center opened its doors. Originally dubbed the Spectrum II, it also became the home for the NBA’s Philadelphia 76ers.
Since then, both the NBA and the NHL teams have called Wells Fargo Center their home. The over 20,000-capacity indoor arena has undergone multiple name changes through the decades. For its first two years, the venue that will host Simone Biles and the GOAT team was known as Core States Center however, after the name changed to First Union Center in 1998.

First Union acquired Core States Financial Corporation in 1998 and reamed the venue. This chain of naming partners acquiring previous partners continued until 2010. Wachovia National Bank absorbed First Union, renaming the stadium to Wachovia Center in 2003. Finally, the current naming partner, Wells Fargo, changed the name to the Wells Fargo Center in 2010.
The historic venue started its journey with a World Cup of Hockey match between Team USA and Team Canada in 1996. 19,500 people attended the match, which Team USA won by a 5-3 margin. After a strong beginning, Well Fargo Center has hosted several important matches for the 76ers and Flyers, including NBA finals, Stanley Cup matches, and more.
In 2001, 20,900 filled the arena to watch the 76ers take on the Lakers in their first final inside Wells Fargo Center. However, now it’s gearing up for various events in October alone, starting with Simone and Co.’s Gold Over America Tour.

The October 5 concert will be part of the musician’s Hit Me Hard And Soft Tour. However, Eilish’s show will only be the first of multiple concerts. Hot on the heels of her viral success with ‘Espresso’, Sabrina Carpenter will bring her Short n’ Sweet Tour to Wells Fargo Center on October 8.

Besides the rising pop star, veteran multi-platinum-selling artist Justin Timberlake and the legendary Stevie Wonder will take the stage on October 11 and 12, respectively. However, the home of the 76ers and Flyers also has multiple games lined up for fans in October. The 76ers will take to the court on October 7 in a preseason game against yet-to-be-announced opponents.
Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers will start by taking on the Vancouver Canucks on October 19. However, if none of these sound appetizing, then WWE will bring Monday Night RAW to the arena on October 21. So it’s safe to say Simone Biles and Co. will kick off an exciting month of events tonight at the 76ers’ home. Will you catch the Olympic medalists at the South Philadelphia arena?
