Remember the Chicago Bears’ August 17 game against the Cincinnati Bengals? Simone Biles was in the center of attention as she arrived to support her husband, Jonathan Owens. But wait. Instead of celebrating, the Bears community was stunned. How could she choose that outfit where Owens is featured donning the No. 34 jersey?

Yes, you got that right. That’s Ownes in Packers gear! A horribly wrong fashion choice no? After all, the Packers and the Bears have a rivalry that dates back to 1921. So, the backlash was also massive. Someone called out, “Time to get a Bears version of that jacket now.” Some even went on to tag Kristin Juszczyk, designer and wife of San Francisco 49ers player Kyle Juszczyk, and asked her to make Biles a Bears jacket. Even former Bears players also joined the chatter.

Former Bears linebacker Lance Briggs, in a talk show, lashed out, saying that Owens needs to tell his wife not to wear Packers gear at his matches anymore. One of the hosts even claimed that Owens told him “I gotta tell her [Simone Biles], I gotta do better!” Simone must have taken note as weeks after this , while leaving the Global Summit on Women’s Mental Health, Simone said, “Yes, I have plenty [of Bears gear] now. So, don’t you worry, guys!”

Jump cut to Bears’ December 22 clash against the Detroit Lions. Simone donned a stylish black shirt with a sparkly “36” (Owens’ jersey number), paired with a Prada bucket hat, puffer coat, and some seriously chic $1,390 Prada ski boots. Well, it’s as uber cool as it sounds on paper, but actually a product of a slip-up that happened. But before we get to that, how does the GOAT manages to get those done?

In an exclusive Backseat interview (YouTube video) with Olympics Gymnastics on December 22, the interviewer asked Biles, who was on her way to the Bears-Lions clash in her all-back outfit we mentioned earlier, “You’ve had some good fashion looks for the game. How do you put them together? To this, Biles replied, “Honestly, I reach out to some of the creators that make the apparel, and I have no ideas. I let them kind of freeball it, and I say, ‘Surprise me. That’s how I piece them together.”

As per a revelation from earlier this year, Biles’ 4’8″ frame reportedly makes it quite difficult for her to find clothes. In August this year, she had written on her Instagram Story, “Before y’all complain that nothing fits y’all, I want y’all to see my struggle…So hard to find bottoms that fit…,” posting a photo of high-rise straight-leg Abercrombie & Fitch pants sized at a 23/000, that apparently fit her perfectly. So what’s the solution? Custom-designed clothes.

Unfortunately, this also means she’s at the mercy of her outfit designers at times, which is what exactly happened this past week. Talking about the all-black outfit, she revealed, “Today’s ‘fit is actually very simple, just because me and my friends’ outfits didn’t come in time. So, this is my back-up.” Biles, it seems, has a whole wardrobe dedicated to supporting Owens and his NFL career. She’s even got a massive surprise planned for Owens’ upcoming game against the Seattle Seahawks on December 26!

When asked about her favorite outfit for attending Owens’ games, she teased the viewers saying, “My favorite one so far is one that I have at home, and I’m wearing it to Thursday’s game.” Sounds like she’s going to turn all 62,500 heads at Soldier Field in Chicago! But that’s not all!

The star also dived into some other interesting details, talking about some pre-game day rituals. “What’s the interaction like between you guys [before] game day?” the interviewer asked, to which the star replied, “Well, usually, you’re not allowed to be with him the night before. So, we sleep separately in the hotel. And then, after that, he comes up, gives me a kiss goodbye. So, it’s very…He’s so chill, he’s relaxed, and that’s also his personality. So, [he’s] not as stressed as me.”

For those who have followed the couple, it’s been endearing to see how supportive they’ve been of each other. Especially, with Biles preparing for her third Olympics—after an unforgiving case of twisties rendered her out of Tokyo—Owens made sure to stand strong by her side. The 29-year-old even took a special leave from training camp to cheer for his wife in Paris. Even the Bears’ HC Matt Eberflus was left in awe of his player’s dedication. “Just because we respect the Olympics. That is a big deal. And he’s just supporting the one he loves the most. And I think that’s so cool that he gets to do that. We welcome that and it’s gonna be awesome. Go USA,” the coach had said at the time. And now it’s time for the wife to return the favor…

“You’ve talked about how supportive he’s been, and how much that’s meant to you. What is it like to be able to repay that now?” Biles was asked during her latest interview. “Oh my gosh! It means the  world to me. And I know, it means so much to him, for me to be able to go and support his games. And, for him, it means a lot for me to go on the sidelines before. Because, he says, that’s his pregame routine. So, he’s always looking for me on the sidelines to give him…good luck vibes, and wishes. That’s just his superstition.” She also talked about their pre-game handshake, revealing:

That’s Jonathan. Jonathan thinks of all the things: handshakes, pre-game rituals, what he needs to eat – all Jonathan.” Having said that, the duo’s highly-publicized and busy career/love life also means that there’s little time left for them to do normal couple things. Perhaps, the biggest sacrifice of them all is not even being able to celebrate Christmas sometimes. Talking about the same, Biles mentioned about her December 25 plans this year: “Honestly, just the two of us. Nothing crazy. We’re going on vacations next year, so we kind of didn’t even do a Christmas this year. Honestly, just relaxing. And then we have to come back downtown to report to the hotel so we’ll be with the team.”

Well, it’s understandable given how the Bears have an important clash just the day after Christmas.

But all of this, Biles also admitted, at one point, how she’s always “nervous about his health and safety” before the games. Having said that, while she’s ready to bring the style, let’s hope there’s no controversy like last time, which upset Bears fans.

Simone Biles faces backlash for little fashion misstep

A few months back, Simone Biles found herself facing backlash from Chicago Bears fans after wearing a Green Bay Packers jacket to a preseason game. The jacket, which featured black-and-white photos of her husband Jonathan Owens in his Packers uniform and a Packers logo on the shoulder, caused a stir. Owens had just signed a two-year contract with the Bears after playing for the Packers in 2023, and the Packers are one of the Bears’ biggest rivals. Biles was spotted at Soldier Field in Chicago, wearing the controversial jacket over a black romper and accessorized with a black Prada bucket hat, sneakers, and sunglasses.

Biles posted several photos on social media, including one of her kissing Owens, which led to even more backlash from fans. Some criticized her for being “unaware” and insulting to her husband by wearing rival team gear, with one fan even suggesting she “throw that jacket in the trash.” Despite the negative reaction, Biles remained calm and didn’t respond directly at first. However, when asked if she had gotten any Bears gear yet, she assured fans, “I have plenty now! So don’t you worry, guys,” laughing off the situation.

She made it clear that she’s now fully on board with supporting her husband’s new team.

Biles had previously been silent on the controversy, but her comment reassured Bears fans. While she’s no stranger to controversy, both Biles and Owens have supported each other throughout their careers, and this little fashion misstep didn’t change that.
