Speaking to B/R Walk Off back in June 2024, Olivia Dunne got questioned if she gets more nervous watching Paul Skenes’ starts or during one of her own gymnastics routines. To which she replied, “oh my goodness, I would say I get more nervous watching Paul because its just different when you’re not doing it and you’re not in control. But I am confident in his abilities and I kind of channel those nerves into excitement for him.”

Back then, she hoped Paul would give a similar response, saying he worries more about her starts if asked the same question. And that’s exactly what happened. Recently, when the channel interviewed Paul, months after Olivia Dunne’s interview, the reporter posed the same question to the Pirates’ star. Skenes’ answer to the reversed question turned out to be quite intriguing.

The 2024 NL Rookie of the year winner said he worries more ‘for her competition.’ He then explained the rationale, saying, “Yeah, and it’s such a different sport but I’m literally…you know…first and foremost, I want her to do well. But also I want to make sure that she is healthy and enjoying it.” He agreed that the scenario with gymnastics was completely different, but Olivia Dunne’s health and happiness are his primary concerns.

Paul Skenes also added another reason why he gets concerned. He said, “And also, as athletes, we want to be in control of the situation. And when she goes out there, I’m completely out of control. So it’s totally different, something that I am still getting used to.” But Skenes’ concern for Olivia Dunne is not completely unfounded.

Well, the latest news on the block is that Paul Skenes is now officially the 2024 National League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year. And while Olivia Dunne thinks, the win is ‘well deserved,’ she did land in hot water when she added her spin to the perks that the Pirates announced with the limited-edition Topps rookie debut patch card.

Apart from the promised 30 years of tickets, a pair of autographed Skenes jerseys, and a chance to meet the Pitcher himself, Olivia Dunne added, “Let’s raise the stakes. The person who finds the card can sit with me at a Pirates game in my suite.” Well, this was when one of the fans reacted saying. “Oh yeah, sitting next to her really raised the stakes compared to 30 years of tix. What narcissism.”
