Home/Olympics

It’s never easy when your home is on fire. Even though many Israeli people are scattered all over the world, their hearts also continue to weep as tensions continue to increase in the region. However, icons and celebrities from all over the globe are stepping forward to help alleviate the pain of the unfortunate people who are at the center of the conflict. Israeli Olympic gold medalist gymnast Artem Dolgopyat is the latest athlete to announce his intentions to stand beside his countrymen during these difficult times.

While there are multilayered political and other reasons that are contributing to the war, these things seem pretty vague to anyone who is suffering directly because of the all-consuming fire of the war. With that in mind, Dolgopyat has expressed his determination to lend his shoulder to the people of Gaza.

In a recent social media post, Artem’s intentions to extend his hand to the people in Gaza have been revealed. Dolgopyat won gold in this year’s World Championship held in Antwerp. However, his victory came on 7th October, the day Hamas launched its unprecedented attack. Justifiably, the Israeli gymnast wasn’t in any mood to celebrate. The Tokyo Olympics gold medalist now looks to use his Championship medal to raise funds and help the war-torn people of the Gaza Envelope.

A Facebook post says that Dolgopyat will be “selling the medal and all of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to aid communities in the Gaza Envelope region including Nir Oz, Kfar Aza, Be’eri and others“. After winning in Antwerp, Artem stated that he, “didn’t have one iota of joy at all.” He was only thinking about Israel and now it’s time to do something about it.

In the post, Dolgopyat has been quoted as claiming that for him, his country comes first and if the country is hurting, then his wins don’t mean anything at all. “I am happy to give something that is the most dear to me, to my country that is most dear to me“, says the Olympian with a resolute determination.
