Sunisa Lee, popularly known as Suni Lee is a recognizable name in the gymnastics industry. The 20-year-old? has walked up the ladder to prove her efforts and resilience on numerous occasions. However, the pinnacle of her career was marked as she climbed the top of the podium at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The gymnast had earned the best total score on all four apparatus pushing her to own the Olympic all-around champion title. But as she stepped up to make history yet again, Lee was faced with an obstacle.

Earlier this year, Suni Lee had stated that she had her eyes on the 2024 Paris. As she worked towards the goal, Suni learned that she had been diagnosed with kidney-related issues that would hinder her performance. The news obliged Suni to sit out her contests and make modifications to her practice routines. Nonetheless, the icon has risen strongly from her obstacles; proving the stance in her latest Instagram update.

Sunisa Lee shares an exciting update

It was in February that Suni Lee first came across her obstacle. The gymnast experienced swelling throughout her entire body; leading to multiple tests. With her final diagnosis out after weeks of medical tests and visits, Lee announced that she would be cutting her journey at Auburn short; stating the reason as, a “non-gymnastics health-related issue involving my kidneys.”?However, sticking to her routine and suggested changes, Suni seems to be recovering well.

On the 17th of October, Suni took to her Instagram story to share an update on her health. In the image shared, Suni sported comfortable athleisure clothing as she stood in the gym. Captioning the post, Suni wrote, “2 months later…proud of myself”; letting people know that she isn’t here to succumb.

Despite her unfathomable diagnosis back in April, Suni Lee hasn’t let a chance slip by to step on the ground. Be it the return to elite gymnastics or the aim to make it to the Olympics; the 20-year-old has forgone the bitterness to stand an inspiration.

The gymnast doesn’t want to let the ‘life setbacks’ stop one

Back in August, Suni competed at her first elite gymnastics meet in two years; the Core Hydration Classic. Her performance at the meet would decide her further presence at the US Gymnastics Championships. Lee, however nervous with odds that stood against her, rose tall to conquer. The gymnast put up a score of 14.5 on the beam, the second highest for the day, and a 13.5 on the vault. Her scores pushed Suni right into the US Championships.

?This comeback was so much more than my return to elite gymnastics. It was me proving to myself that I can overcome hard things, and to hopefully inspire others to never let life?s setbacks stop you from going after your dreams,? Sunni wrote in an Instagram post returning to the competition. From there on, she headed to the US Gymnastics Championships. Excelling through the events of the day and the year, Suni stood to be decorated in bronze; earning a 27.850 on balance beam.

Though she was forced to sit out of the 2023 World Artistic Gymnastics Championships, the gymnast still has a chance to get her feet back on the ground. From June 27-30 2024, the Target Center in Minneapolis will host the 2024 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Trials. The United States Olympic Committee will oversee the event to select the participants for the US Olympic gymnastics team. Sunisa Lee who already already has a berth will look to keep her goal to Paris 2024 alive.
