The strongest gymnasts on the American team, Jade Carey, Shilese Jones, and Simone Biles, are showing their moment to shine. Now battling for the top position at the 2023 Xfinity U.S. Gymnastics Championships in South Bay, the 26-year-old Biles is facing stiff competition from 23-year-old Carey, who is best recognized for her skills in the vault and floor exercise. Both athletes have competed in one of the four disciplines as the scores grow.

However, not many days have passed since the reigning world vault champion Carey made a candid confession about lagging behind in training. Prior to the World Championships, she swore to improve her floor routine, and her performance was fierce enough to near Biles’s marks.

While aiming for perfection in the U.S. Classic earlier this month, both Biles and Carey fell short of reaching their best performances. While 4X Olympic gold medalist Biles came up short in the vault competition, junior Carey with 3X Pac-12 Championships only competed on the balancing beam. Later, Carey said during an interview that her Maloney half on uneven bars wasn’t progressing as it should have in practice. She also admitted her progress and said that she was “here to slay.”A glimpse of her routine was shared by the USA gym on their Instagram.

In the second rotation, Biles scored 14.800 on the floor while Carey scored 13.950 on the vault. Next, in the third rotation, the junior gymnast scored 12.050 on the bars compared to seasoned rival Biles’ flawless 15.700.

In the last rotation, Biles earned a score of 14.350 on the bars while Carey earned another low of 12.150 on the balancing beam. Carey and Biles finished the night with an overall score of 51.500 and 59.300, respectively. For both of the gymnasts, Day 1 came to a successful conclusion which almost seemed far-fetched for Carey a few days back. However, the rising junior managed to have a clearer picture of things merely days before the nationals.
