Last year, Liverpool hosted the World Gymnastics Championships, generating $6,086,080 in revenue. Over 35,000 spectators watched events at the M&S Bank Arena during the Gymnastics Championships that were held from October 29 to November 6. According to BBC News, the events inspired 47 schools to introduce gymnastics sessions for 3,000 kids in the city.

Some terrific all-around athletes were seen on the floor and beam, alongside their endurance on the vault, pommel, and bars. The USA team continued their nation’s decade-long dominance by winning their sixth consecutive World title. The winning team included Skye Blakely, Jade Carey, Jordan Chiles, Shilese Jones, and Leanne Wong, scoring 166.564 points. The US team’s feat is the first in its nine decades of women’s artistic gymnastics legacy with six consecutive World Championships.

According to the statistics, the Liverpool City Region witnessed 82% of attendees from foreign regions spectating the sport. Over 11,000 people visited the venue for the first time, and over 60% stayed overnight?a massive success on the charts with each of the host city’s dream checkboxes being ticked off. While the city is still wrapping its head around the massive economic boost, officials shared their views on the big achievement.

Liverpool’s gymnastics boom

In its fourth year as the host city, Liverpool welcomed more than 550 gymnasts from 75 different nations for the Championship. Talking about the success, Harry Doyle, Liverpool’s cabinet member for health, wellbeing, and culture, said, “We’re?already seeing that this event will have a lasting legacy for Liverpool, making a tangible difference to many communities and the lives of those who will benefit from the positive physical and mental health benefits of getting active.”

The effect of the influx of visitors on the local economies of the host city was valuable. The championships served as an Olympic qualifying event for the gymnasts to secure their place in the next Olympics.
