With 1.6 million followers on Instagram, the athlete recently provided them with an update following the setback of not being selected for the US senior national team. Sunisa Lee shared a story through her official page on Instagram in which she can be seen inside a gym. The gymnastics star is dressed in gym attire, sporting a pair of tracks and a top with headphones resting on her head. She strikes a pose while facing a mirror and captures a photo using her own phone. In the background, various gym equipment such as treadmills, weights, and exercise balls can be seen.

This story highlights that the gymnast is actively focusing on her fitness and is on the path to recovery from the kidney issue that has been affecting her for several months. In February of this year, she received a diagnosis of a kidney problem and began her treatment journey. She initiated a regimen of medication and made frequent visits to her doctors, which in turn had an impact on her fitness routine. During an interview with the Olympics, the gymnastic star revealed, “I could wake up very swollen some days and not be able to put my fingers inside my grips”.

With the health struggles and after consultation with her coach Jess Graba, she decided to focus on balance beam and vault. She took part in US Classics in August and booked her place at the US Championship in both the category. At the US Championship, her kidney issue affected her performance, and she failed to perform well. Post the US Championship, the US senior team was announced which included Simone Biles, Skye Blakley, Jordan Chiles, and others but her name was missing.

After securing a spot at the US Championship, there were concerns about her participation due to well-known health issues. However, the Olympian displayed remarkable courage, receiving praise from her fellow competitors such as Simone Biles and Jordan Chiles. At the US Championship, which marked her final performance at an event, she earned a score of 13.65 on the beam on the first day and 14.2 on the second. With a total score of 27.850, she secured the bronze medal in the event. In the vault, while she demonstrated consistency, her performance featured lower-level difficulty, resulting in a lower score. As a result, she finished in the 27th overall position in the event.
