The U.S. World Selection event has proven to be quite a bumpy ride for American gymnasts. While even Simone Biles took a couple of falls on the opening day, things didn?t look good for gymnastics sensation Skye Blakely on day 2 of the trials. Notably, Blakely finished her first day on a strong note but lost her momentum the following day owing to a slip-up.

The 18-year-old gymnast has emerged as a gymnast to look out for. Blakely bagged the fourth all-around spot at the XFinity US Championships. However, her impeccable technique showed some cracks on day 2 of the selection camp.

Skye Blakely messes up routine after almost topping Simone Biles

Skye Blakely stunned everyone on the opening day with stellar performances in the vault and uneven bars category. In fact, Blakely secured the second spot in uneven bars and led the charge in the vault category. Falling behind top scorer Simone Biles by just 0.700, Blakely almost beat her on day 1. However, she couldn?t continue her magic quite well on the second day. Skye Blakely?s impressive technique and artistry on the bars seemed to dampen on day 2 as she was unable to put up her very best.?

While Blakely easily caught her first release, she unfortunately missed the second one. This forced the third overall gymnast to remount for her routine. Blakely hit all the right notes after remounting, but the damage was reflected in her scores. She received a total of 13.000 (5.7, 7.300), which is a sharp drop from her day 1 score, 14.200, as per MyUSAG. US gymnast Jordan Chiles also suffered a fall on the first day of the selection camp. However, she overcame her problems on day 2.

Jordan Chiles overcomes adversity on day 2

Jordan Chiles didn?t have a very great time on the first day of the selection camp. In fact, she fell out of bounds during her floor exercise routine which pushed her to the 11th position in the category. Chiles? performance on day 1 invoked a lot of concern in fans and also gave rise to several critics. However, Chiles showed up with excellent routines on the second day to put on a strong show alongside Simone Biles.

Jordan Chiles didn?t miss a single beat on the second day and scored fabulously on the scorecard. In fact, she got 14.100 on uneven bars, 13.100 on the beam, and 12.950 on the floor. The scores achieved by Simone Biles? best friend represented a strong comeback in the balance beam category. She didn?t lose any points on the floor either.
